RDX Friends - Please Help with Non RDX Question
OK I know this is not an RDX question - but having come to know all of you, I would apprciate your advice on this problem:
My 2001 Mazda Tribute, 115,000 mile, transmission failed. The choices are:
Have Mazda replace it with a remanufactured transmission for $2,500-3,000
Have a Lee Myles type shop rebuild it for an as yet unkown amount
Sell it as is for about $1,000
Other?
Autotrader.com has for sale listings at around $5,000-6,000 (these seem well inflated)
KBB.com trade in value = $3,300 (Has anybody ever gotten the listed trade in value? Not me.)
Thanks and sorry for being off topic.

I had a 2001 Escape XLT 4x4/towing pkg ($26K). It was nice, but too many recalls/problems and horrible mgp. Got $9.4K in 2006 on trade for Honda Civic EX. I would not spend a nickel on the Tribute. You will be lucky to get $2K on a trade, if that.

Isn't the Tribute a rebranded Ford? If so, I d think that you should be happy with the 115k miles you got out of it and move on. You can pay $3000 for the transmission but you never know what else is going to fail. You aren't going to recoup the $3k in resale value.
