I took my TSX in for service today and got an 08 RDX loaner. My service advisor asked me if I had ever driven one before and I said yes because my mom owns an 07 CGP with Tech. He then tells me that Acura will stop making the RDX because of the slow sales. Has anyone else heard this? It seems a little strange that they would just stop making it all together since there are so many more competitors coming into the market from Mercedes, Infiniti, Saab, and maybe Cadillac.

I don't know if this is good or bad after seeing the redesigned RL . Personally I love the RDX with the exeptions of a few missing features like auto headlights and power passenger seat.

I seriously doubt it, last quarter sales for the RDX were on their 4th breaking record up and at least 9.5% up on November's report.

hard to believe, when even Honda said the S2k would be discontinued, and 2 years later it's still here. Its all rumors until it actually happens.

I have seen the sales reports but it really depends on what rumor you believe. I think that it was on table at Honda before the RDX began get some steam. Then there is the rumor that Acura plans to sale two more crossovers.

Like I said...if it aint noterized/in fine print/ signed by HONDA/ACURA CEO...then it means SH*T.

But then again, they out-landished themselves by ridding of the
Acura LEGEND and Integra. (two wonderful great cars).

not rumor. they have, at least, 1 new cross coming in the 50k+ range.

this may be the upscale variant of a Honda V6 cross expected in 09. but, to be determined.

Rumors are Rumors. Not putting much fact to them but like you said stranger things have happen at HMC.

As long as the Honda CR-V is around, it makes sense for Acura to sell the RDX. The CR-V isn't going anywhere, so neither is the RDX.

I think a lot of people are in a "wait and see" mode with regard to where fuel-efficient technology is going in the automobile industry...I would expect sales to be slightly down across the board, especially for those vehicles not touting cleaner technology. If I were marketing the RDX, I would highlight it's 19/24mpg ratings along with it's "fuel-efficient yet responsive" 240hp turbo 4 cylinder.

The $399/mo national lease for the RDX should help boost sales as well.

i was actually going to post this exact same thing, but, if this were the case, Acura would still have the RSX/Integra....the civic never went anywhere.

the RSX just didnt blend with the future scope of the brand, at least, that was in part some of the reason why its gone. The RDX, it is a wait and see...if it fails overall then hey, we may just be the lucky ones who still have one. I would have loved to have bought a pocket rocket RSX for tuning along with the RDX.

isnt it also planned to get a Diesel? doesnt sound like it should be going away anytime soon...

Neither the RSX or Integra were built on the Civic chassis. The RDX is built on the CR-V chassis. Acura did (does?) make a car built on the Civic chassis but it's only available in Canadia. It's the CSX.

the RSX platform (new at the time) became the platform for the civic in 2001. The RSX, in Japan and Aust. were still sold as the "integra"

Where I live in Eastern PA, RDXs are more scarce than AMC Pacers. I knew I should've bought that Land Rover LR2! Dammit!

If the dinosaur RL can last as long as it has... I seriously doubt the RDX is on the way out this soon. It still represents a huge value for the money for anyone cross shopping the X3 and RX. In fact, I'm beginning to see more RDXs on the road almost daily and the numbers from corporate support the fact that they are moving off the lots. Like many cars, until people start seeing them on the street, only the enthusiasts are going to be in the dealerships buying them the first year or two and that goes especially for Acura which is not a huge percentage compared to mama Honda (a la Accord and CRV).

Actually they just borrowed a section off the CR-V, as for the rest of the chassis not even close. RDX's chassis is heavily tweaked to accommodate SH-AWD and other larger casted components.

If they still honor the warranty why would you care? I would because I don't have one yet , but it MAY increase the value of it if its discontinued. My 1985 Honda nighthawk 700S was only made for 3 years..1984 to 1986. It is a very sought after bike now. Who knows, it IS discontinued, that may very well help you when you go to trade it in, or sell it outright.

Don't know about any of you, but I also remember the Vigor. Don't think that car made it past one or two years of production....

with that note, I am in no way saying that the RDX will succumb to the same fate.

Bullshit.

The RDX is a brand new vehicle AND it's selling well. If they were going to axe anything, it would probably be the S2000. In the Acura lineup, it would probably be the RL since it sells so poorly.

They are def. spending some mula there. With that said the RDX will be the MBenz's GLK (CUV) competition (or the other way around, whichever you look at it)....

This is more unsubstantiated rumor. The RDX, like any other Acura, has its niche and is only going to get better from here. The cuv class is becoming more prominent every month. RDX will only benefit from that. I've been seeing a lot more of them on the road here the past few months.

That article is an OPINION! What is their bases for the comment?? It's not selling 7500 units a month?? They ask for your opinion on the subject at the end. They're trying to SELL articles. No emperial facts to support it!
The RDX is still doing ok, according to the monthly sales reports by Honda!

I agree they are not about to discontinue this model. They are no where near recovering their investment, but the sales don't seem so great: The figures just released for January 2008, show a 17.5% drop from January 2007 for the RDX. MDX has only a 4.1% decline.

People need to realize "first" year model realeses better. Everyone knows a lot of money is spent on creating a first year anything. With that said it is impossible to get a "full" return on your investment on it's first or second year.

Some people really need to have a concept of how business models work...

Interesting, my dealer contact told me this is the last year for the TSX, as the RDX sales are projected to overtake TSX sales this year.
