Oil change by mileage or car reminder?
Oil change by mileage or car reminder?
Hello guys,
I have a 2010 RDX and been a happy driver for almost 3 years now.
I have a question about oil changes and general service reminders.
The problem is, my RDX's service reminders show up 1500-2000 miles sooner than what the dealer sticker (the little sticker telling when the next service is due) says.
For example, if I had an oil change at 15000, the dealer sticker will say "next service due @ 20000). But my RDX's service reminder says Oil 5%: service due now only @ 18500...
I like the car my the oil change is a bit expensive. And having the car tell me to change oil every 3000-3500 miles... wth???
So which one do you follow? The car's service minder or the dealer's sticker?
Thanks in advance...

I always follow the M.I.D. schedule for oil changes for both my TSX (+93,000 miles) and RDX (+79,000 miles). So far, I don't have to add any oil to either vehicle between oil changes.
There are times I will change my oil early; such as, when going on vacation and I don't want the car screaming at me because I'm due. Most of the time, I just follow whatever the M.I.D. tells me and it is one less thing I have to worry about.

The car might also sit for an extended period of time in your garage. All oil degrades. Soooo...If, for example, you got called back into active duty/service for some reason and you were in Fallujah for A YEAR AND 1/2. You'd want to take the car in for service and have the oil changed before you drove down to your Mothers house (just to be safe).

The computer also will log the miles you went beyond the service due now indicator. A factor that could be used against you if you ever had engine warranty issues. Did you read the owners manual? This is covered in the owners manual.
