November Sales Numbers

Anyone care to venture a prediction on what the November sales numbers will be?

Here are some factors to consider....

1. Pricing seems to have come down to invoice or close to it in the majority of the US.
2. Holiday shopping time. People buying more vehicles for xmas? or people need money for other things during this season?
3. 2007 MDX is in full swing this month, MDX advertising up, RDX advertising down. Even seen a bunch of TSX and TL commercials lately. Two months ago it was all RDX advertising.
4. Winter is coming fast! cold weather and snow must boost all SUV sales....
5. Winter is coming fast! I would guess that traffic in general at car dealerships decreases as the weather gets colder, and increases when the weather gets nicer.

I'm guessing the numbers will increase from last month's measily 1700. I'm gonna go the optimistic route and say 2800-3000.....

Based on local inventories, which aren't changing much, I would say 1500-2000. The new financing incentive was announced on 11/22. I bet numbers were not looking good so they threw in a last minute appetizer.

i agree. i have been shopping the rdx for over a month now. i have yet to see one in nyc or one on the road. i am getting calls & emails from every dealer that i remotely contacted. they are all discounting! when they get me on the phone, they are willing & dealing. i got four emails (without any direct contact) promising me $1,000 off the msrp! that doesn't happen much with acura vehicles. when i first decided to buy the rdx a month or so ago, my friends told me i would be lucky to get $500 off the msrp. well, i made a much better deal just by waiting & shopping around. the only thing now bothering me is if these don't sell well, what will happen to the trade-in values a couple years from now? i really don't understand why they aren't selling better.

Stopped by my local Acura dealership for some warranty work and spoke to the sales guy who helped me with my purchase a few months back. According to him the RDX isnt selling so well. He also says the MDX they cant even keep on the lot.

My dealer has in stock:
83 RDXs
59 2007 MDXs
12 2007 RLs
83 2007 TLs
32 2007 TSXs

I guess nothing is selling too fast for my dealer.

Whoa

How big is your dealership? I think the one here could hold 83 cars total - not just one model.

As for the RDX: I predict the sales will be about the same but may take an upswing when all of the 2006 MDXs are gone. I have heard many times that the RDX is overpriced when you can get the 06 MDX for just a bit more thanks to the efforts of trying to clear them out.

Thats a huge dealership!

The local Acura dealership here serves the entire northwest area, the next closest Acura dealership to ours is 120 miles away and we hardly have the stock you have. From their website.

9 2007 MDXs
25 2007 RDXs
1 2007 RL
45 2007 TLs
7 2007 TSXs

With those numbers, seems more like the world's largest acura "collector".

I want an RDX!

I test drove the RDX this past weekend, but the dealer that I visited in CT was less than happy to move off of MSRP. No, I'm not a complete boob who seemed like a sucker, but the line I was fed was that no one was selling these cars for much below MSRP. What I'm hearing here on this forum is the opposite. What should I be doing (other than finding a different dealership) to get the best possible price on the RDX (with technology package) that I want?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Sundown, just send email inquiries to all the dealerships in the area. As they have sales and lower prices, they'll spam the list of email addresses they've collected. That is how I am keeping up on the reductions.

I test drove the non-tech RDX this past weekend, they were pushing me to buy the non-tech, and I believe the price was 31224 something like that out of the door, but haven't negotiated with the Tech model yet, coz I was in the hurry that day.

I am seeing quite a lot of RDX's here in Vancouver BC Canada. May be the weather has something to do with that?

Not true-just finished the deal, Tech for ~6% underlist.
They will deal better on the non-tech as they are not as popular, but they are dealing. If you want a dealer in South Jersey, PM me.

Another newbie question -- if I was to buy an RDX from a dealer a bit too far from home for regular service visits to that dealer, would other Acura dealers who might at some time service my RDX give me a hard time about getting a loaner car while my RDX is in for service? I asked one salesperson this question, and he not surprisingly said that it would be no problem, but I would love to hear it from owners. Any experiences to share?

Thanks so much again.

It has never been an issue for me. The service dept doesn't care where you bought the car, they are glad to earn your business.

Anybody having better luck with dealers in CT? I want an RDX but do not want to pay MSRP - it seems as though I should be able to work a better deal (at least that's what it seems from this forum)
Any help/thoughts would be great!

I have worked this deal several times in the past very successfully....

figure out which 3 or 4 dealers are the best dealers for you, usually location based. Doesn't really matter how close they are, as long as it is feasible that you can go to that dealer. send emails to the internet depts of dealers 3 and 4 saying "I have arranged a deal with another acura dealer for an RDX tech for $34,500. (make it low, but not too low) Will you match this deal?

If they do match it, your golden, you then take those numbers to your #1 and #2 dealers that you really want to purchase from and you can say so-and-so dealer gave me this price, will you match it?

If 3 and/or 4 don't match your deal then you probably asked for too low. Raise your offer and send it to dealer #2. repeat with your #1 dealer choice. I'm sure there are a few acura dealers out there somewhere in the country that are having a hard time keeping tech packages on their lot, no it's not the norm, but every area is different.

After working with 4 dealers, chances are you are going to get a deal you like, unless you are being totally unreasonable on your price or the demand is unusually high in your area so you'll have to wait or go far outside your area.

The Acura website says that the 3.9%/4.9% financing deals last until early January. Is that correct? On these boards, I'm getting the impression that these financing deals end this weekend. Thanks!

Thats correct, though many dealer websites will tell you the deals end at the end of november or the end of december to try and convince buyers to purchase before the end of the month. I think the financing deals end on january 4th if I remember correctly.

Sundown, were you dealing with Greenwich Acura? I inquired there before i bought and they weren't in the mood to negotiate. Try Acura of Bedford Hills which is close enough to CT. They were more than willing to accomodate me.

It was Greenwich Acura! They had several RDX's with technology package on their very small lot but weren't willing to budge an inch!

discount

By the way, I don't understand why dealers will start to offer deep discount. It is a 2007 model and it is not even 2007 yet ???

Because RDX sales stink. They are off by about 50% compared to targets thus far.

For those too lazy to read the article...

1951 units in 25 days in November. Starting to get a little better. October was 1701 units in 25 days.

It sounds like the marketing team overestimated RDX demand and underestimated MDX demand.

That's marketing for you! I'm sure RDX sales will continue to rise. Will it meet the original 40k estimate....probably not, but by the end of the model year, I'd guess they will be close to that pace.

OK, so here's what it looks like:

Sales seem to be steady, averaging 1808 per month (if you wanted to form a trend). If they can hold this over a year, it would come out to 21700 units, less than the 40000 projected. I guess if we don't see a major pickup soon, they will need to cut production back for 2007. I am already seeing VIN numbers in the 13000-14000 range, so they have already built 2/3 production of extrapolated sales for the whole year.

Maybe the 40K projections were too optimistic.
