New guy, Need some help!

Hey guys,

My wife told me she would like to get an Acura RDX. Our price range is under $15k I've been seeing 2009's for around $13k.

Is there any models to avoid or any to aim for? Technology package? Turbo no turbo?

I don't know anything about them. Are there any common issues to watch out for?
Are there more than one motor? I've seen people here talk about turbo's are they all turbo? It seems they have about 90k miles on them at the car lots...

Is there any mandatory maintenance at certain mileage like timing chains or timing belts? I have an Audi, VW background but know nothing about acura's. I know they're Hondas and Honda seems to be reliable. Thanks for the help and input. I just don't want to buy a money pit or a bad car unknowingly.

You might want to take a RDX for a test drive to see it the 5AT, 2.3L turbo, sh-awd, 17-19 mpg combined, 91 octane gas, and stiff/tight suspension is what you can live with for X amount of years. The 07-09 are configured pretty much the same with same motor (2.3L turbo 4), trans (5AT), and awd (sh-awd). You have to pick your color combo and tech (+navi) or non-tech (no navi). The 10-12 models have the same 07-09 engine/trans with upgraded front/rear bumpers, a touch better tech, and can be had in fwd or sh-awd versions.

Maint for the RDX isn't any more/less compared to any other car in the Acura line-up. There is anything extra to worry about because of the turbo engine, 5AT, or sh-awd system other than requiring Synthetic oil only for the engine. Most issues are battery, door actuators, sun visors, peeling center console covers, creaks/rattles, occasional alternator failure or power steering leak, etc...

I would go for a +08 Model because they have 2 position memory driver seat if you are going to have two drivers. Other than that, it is just color combo, tech level, and body style.

I have +125,000 on my 08 RDX and just keep the Acura recommended maint schedule. I have no reason why I can't drive my RDX for another 4-5 yrs or +75,000 miles just keeping the same maint schedule. Don't be afraid of a high mileage RDX if the owner kept good maint records.

Thanks so much for the help. Sounds like a good vehicle to look into. I appreciate all the info.

Another issue is the A/C clutch. There was an extended 100,000 mile warranty to cover the repair of the unit. I think most 07-09 RDX might have aged out of the extended warranty.

I would also download the owner's manual to get familiar with type of tech and features of the different models. LINK: Owner's Manuals | 2008 Acura RDX | Acura Owners Site
