Lease Maintenance Question
Hello - I own a 2008 RDX. I just scheduled it for an oil change and the dealer informed me that it's due for its 30,000 mile scheduled maintenance - at a cost of $698!!!
I know that upkeep and maintenance is part of my lease contract - I do oil changes, cabin & air filter changes regularly, but given that I do not own this car, nor do I plan to purchase it at lease-end, I have no desire to pay $700 to do some fluid and other changes.
What "maintenance" entails on the lease contract is vague at best. Have those of you that have leased from American Honda Finance before always perfomed these scheduled maintenance intervals?
Most importantly - will I be in for penalties when I return the car next year at the end of my lease if they know I haven't done them? Am I expected to do them?

There is no "30k" scheduled maintenance for the RDX. You do what the MID tells you to do. So take the code (A1, B1, B6, etc), look up what is required, and do that service. If the dealer refuses to do only that, take it to an independent mechanic.

The maintenance minder is showing A12, which is oil change, rotate tires and change air cleaner & pollen filter elements (under extreme conditions).
Looks like all I will be doing is rotating the tires and changing the oil!

I just purchased the filters and changed them myself. I am not in a "dirty area" either, so I would recommend changing the filters.
autoanything.com seems pretty good (at least I am happy with them)

Just had my end of lease inspection. They don't check anything like that so don't bother replacing if you are turning it in soon. And the tires are part of the $1500 allowance, so they are getting 4 baldies back. The Acura end of lease experience actually has been pretty good so far.

when leasing, you don't have to go to the dealer, you can do it else where or yourself. Just keep receipts for oil changes and fluid changes. They usually don't ask for receipts unless there is an issue with the car, but better to keep them just to cover your butt.

I wasn't aware that tires could be counted in the $1500 allowance. They'll be getting 4 bald tires back from me, as well, because i have no desire to pay to change those 4 things myself. Probably $1000 easy!

BTW: The inspector did ask to see my maintenance receipts, so make sure you keep them.

I've had an A12 done before and I think it cost me about $130. I have no idea what the dealer is quoting you for $700. Just ask them to perform what the MID says.

FYI, I had the LOF and tire rotation today. For grins I asked for a printout of what the "30,000 mile maintenance" would include. Here's how it breaks down:
Remove and Replace A/C cabin filter
Remove and Replace Air Filter
Brake Inspection
Battery Terminal Cleaner/Protector
Lube/Oil/Filter
Adjust Parking Brake
Rotate Tires
Drain and Replace A/T fluid
Drain and Replace Rear Differential fluid
Service Transfer Case
Battery Test
Parts: $230.88
Labor: $422.40
Disposal: $28.00
The service advisor admitted herself that they do a brake inspection and battery test as part of the free 19-pt inspection they do at every visit.
Two of my tires are down to 4/32 - they also gave me a quote on replacing two of the tires in the future - $634 plus $99.95 for an alignment!

- Replace cabin filter - DIY
- Replace air filter - DIY
- Brake inspection - should be free, although they charge you for it
- Battery cleaner - Seriously???
- Oil change - I get it done at the dealer, but had a coupon for another place
- Adjust parking brake - They charge you for this too...I don't use it, but if it breaks or doesn't work should be warranty work, shouldn't it?
- Rotate tires - Tire place does it for free...but dealer charging $40 is not bad (I think).
- AT fluid drain? - seriously??Plus, there should be a code for that
- Rear dif - There is a code for that
- Transfer case? - don't know about that one
- Battery test?? - Not necessary
I spent $38 for filters, $40+ for oil change (coupon included). The dealer quoted me 200something for it....

+1...westrepro. I'm still not sure what they're talking about with a 30,000 mile check-up. The RDX doesn't have that. And like you also said, your maintenance reminder was for probably a B12 or something equalivalent to that which is only a couple hundred dollars.
If you have the oppty to go to another Acura dealer, I would.

when leasing, I'd do bare mininimum:
oil changes
tire rotations
rear differential comes at 15-20K
and air filter
the things above will keep you legal as far as lease concerned.
no need to do anything else. good idea to change tranny fluid at 30K, but not required, and if you leasing it would be stupid to do it before giving up the car (unless of course you plan to buy out lease later)
