gasoline with ethanol - no benefits?

i read somewhere today that ethanol actually helps burn some of the water/condensate that inevitably develops in your gas tank. is this true? if so, i guess there are some benefits to it.
if not, then all i read was horsesh*t and pls correct me.

Understand that condensation isn't as much of a problem as it used to be. Years ago, gasoline didn't contain as much ethanol. Today, fuel is usually mixed with at least 10% ethanol and this tends to mix well with water. So even when small amounts of condensation appear in your fuel tank, the ethanol helps to carry the moisture to your engine where it will be vaporized or burned up.

i think you're are correct sir! it still helps to maintain "good fuelling habits": try to fuel by 1/4th tank at the worst, etc.

btw, if by any chance you still have condensation problems, use seafoam - dunno if that works for turbo engines though

In Canada there are a lot of places that don't have Ethanol in the fuel. I know for one ESSO 91 doesn't.

Here in Oklahoma they passed a law a couple years back that requires fuel stations to post on their pumps whether or not it contains up to 10% ethanol. It seems about 75% do contain ethanol. From the studies I've seen, gasoline with ethanol burns 17% faster than non-ethanol. For me, it's well worth the $0.08 difference per gallon to buy the non-ethanol. There is also theories that say the ethanol is very hard on rubber and seals. I don't know about that, but I do know my cars run much, much better with non-ethanol gas.

agree on these comments totally about benefits on non ethanol gas - i myself put in non-ethanol 95% of the time. i just posted it as fyi as i thought it would be ok to fill with ethanol 10% from time to time for that benefit (my original post)

From what I gathered from the internet, ethanol although offers some benefits to the water removal and cleaner combustion, but it actually decreases fuel economy by as much as 10%, in comparison with non-ethanol mixed fuels. So there is a trade-off, better for the environment, but at the cost of less fuel economy.
