Feature or Flaw
On my way home from work I make a left hand turn across two lanes of traffic on a busy road that is driven about 55 MPH. As we all know we have the power to do this with no problem.
It just started to get hot around here so now I am using my AC. What I’ve noticed is when you hit the gas to make this turn on to this road the AC blows out hot air (I think the compressor is shutting off). The only reason I can tell this – is the vents haven’t had a chance to cool off so its blowing the hot air that’s still in the car. Once you let off the gas the air gets cold again
So is this a feature of the car to shut off the compressor when under heavy acceleration? If it is I think that’s cool.
I know with my previous car (95 Integra) I would shut the air off manually, when I wanted extra power.

Burning Brakes
Most cars do this now. My 1997 Mustang Cobra did, my 1999 TL did, and my 2004 WRX did. Most AC compressors are run via a clutched pully. I have not looked at my RDX yet, but on my WRX it was right up on top--you could watch it operate. Pretty cool, really.

My last ride was a trash (Volvo). It had the same A/C problem since day 1. Took it to 3 dealers and all said no problem found. Moved to CA later and did the 30k mile check in CA. The dealer found the "computer box" had to be replaced. After the replace, AC blows cold under any acceleration. Volvo is famous for making junks and the techs are morons. Acura is MUCH better. You should get your car checked out.

hmmm never checked this under full throttle, i thought usually your ac gets colder with moderate acceleration due to increased revs on the compressor, i would have imagined that would b when it was coldest....hehe

+1. Most cars shut off the compressor at WOT so it doesn't bog the car down in an emergency maneuver.
It's not a problem. Perhaps the Volvo techs weren't morons after all.

It makes since to me that this is a feature. Just have never had this before in any of my cars.
Why would you need for your compressor respond when RPM's are over 5000. I could see where over time this could wear things out. Makes a whole lot of since to reduce wear and increase efficiency.
