Dealer Agreement

What recourse do you have if you opt to walk a way from a vehicle before you take delivery? Our vehicle is sitting at the dealers, with our initial deposit.

Where can I find out the answers to this ludicrous question (prior to contacting the dealership itself)? I can't find any information on Acura's policies.

This is between you and the dealer -- Acura has nothing to do with this aspect of the sale. Each dealer has their own policies. Look at the paperwork you got when you gave them the deposit -- it may have fine print that gives the terms.

Did something go wrong with your deal? If they ordered the RDX specifically for you and already put some accessories on, that may be a situation in which you don't get your deposit back. Hard to say.

The other consideration is how much paperwork has actually been done already. Around here, if the titling process has already started, you are pretty much committed to the vehicle. After hearing all sorts of stories over the years, I make sure I am 110% sure about the purchase before starting the paperwork. Which for me means shop, shop, shop, then pick the car I want to buy, give it a thorough test drive and inspection, then talk sale price/terms, then do the paperwork and give them money. I leave the "committment" part for the very last step, so that I do have the freedom to walk if anything is not the way I want. I like to be real comfortable when buying a car, since I would probably develop mental problems if something went wrong or I had any sort of buyer's remorse afterwards.

Usually you can walk any take your deposit back in full anytime before you sign all the papers in the finance office which is usually the last step before taking delivery. Don't let the dealers jerk you around! Dealers will say anything!

Depending on how you made your deposit, you can probably stop payment. Either dispute a credit card charge, stop payment on a check (which typically they don't even deposit or process until the deal is done).....

What happened?

Wow. I can honestly say I've never come across a more indecisive car buyer in the history of time. I've never had sympathies for a dealership, but I think this is a first.

She's been going at it with the dealer over the rear diffuser for 2 weeks now. Just split the cost with the dealer and be done with it. It's just a piece of plastic.

Thanks to C_Hunter and sasair for providing a thought-out and educated response to this message.
