Cruise control question

My RDX is the only car I have see this happen on. Could it be an oversight or is it a WAD (works as designed). On the wheel I can arm the CC by turning it on. This lights a light on the dash. Then I hit another button to set the speed. When I shut off the car, it loses it's 'speed setting' memory. Understand that. But what is different from every CC i've had is that the CC comes back on as armed when I start the car. All i need to do is tap the set and i'm cc'ing along!

Now dont get me wrong, I like this feature. I also like how it tells me that it is on (one light) and set (another). It leaves no doubt as to the CC system status. But what I want to know is a) does it harm anything to always leave it armed? Other vehicles user manuals state you should not leave it on if you dont intend to set it. And B) if it doesnt matter if it stays armed all the time, why even have an on/off option? Just let me keep it on all the time and set it when needed.

As for me, I leave the headlights and CC 'on' all the time. The just go off when I power down the car. Why waste the extra effort turning them on and off? KISS, yaknow?

I drive an 08 TSX, so it may be different. But I leave the "cruise main" button on all the time. I use my cruise control daily to and from work, so when I want to set the cruise, I just have to press the "set" button. It doesn't do any harm to leave it on all the time.

I understand your concerns from this post and the oil light one. I think it all boils down that we as car fans are into the cool features way more than the general public. There are alot of "idiot" features on cars now to keep the "idiots" from killing themselves or others. I think attorneys have alot to do with this. Everyone is afraid of kidding sued these days. It's always better to over design a feature than to under design it.

All current GM vehicles with CC are designed and operate this way. More than likely there is nothing that is actually powered on, just a bit set to be ready for a 'set speed' command.

I have never driven a car that remembered the cruise speed setting after you turned off the engine. That sounds kind of dangerous to me. I've mostly driven stick shift cars in the past, though.
