Considering RDX

Hello, me and my wife have been considering the RDX and love everything about the car. We previously looked at the CR-V and the RAV4 (I know the RDX doesn't exactly compare to these two) but they lacked features such as the poor interior in the RAV4 and the lack of power and unusal exterior of the CR-V. The RDX meets all of our needs and its interior and exterior are exceptional, and an acura dealership is closeby so service would be easy.
The only thing that I'm worrying about is the cost of maintaining the RDX, such as gas, service and then a higher insurance and tax rate.
Can any RDX owners tell me if maintaing the RDX has been high and if insurance/tax rates have been a lot higher than what a CR-V or RAV4 would be (considering the RDX is a luxury car).
Any replys would be greatly appreciated as this is going to be a hard decision.
Thanks.

here in Hawaii our gas prices are on the high side. i usually fill up once or twice a week about 50 for a tank. 3.55 for a gallon here (92 octane). but it never bothered me once. also our insurace isnt that high. lets just say it went up about 20 bucks from our previous car, a 98 4 door accord with state fram. but everywhere is different and this is in Hawaii

my insurance didn't change much at all and as far as gas, I used to drive a Jeep so i'm still paying less buying premium nowadays. As far as the other maintenance sometimes it can be a little more expensive going to a dealer for something like an oil change but you can certainly save yourself a little bit of money by doing that yourself. There are some great DIY posts on this forum. I honestly don't think you're going to run into any abnormal maintenance costs with an RDX.

Ditto, my insurance didn't go up much from the CRV I traded on the RDX. You can check with your insurance agent and get exact cost figures. Premium gas is 20 cents more per gallon than regular typically, but when the RDX is broken in a bit +- 5K, you'll get just what the sticker says for mph.

Thanks for the quick replys i didn't think there would be much of a change other than gas but i guess that won't make much of a difference since the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In connecticut the difference between regular and premium is usually 10 cents so its not that much of a difference considering the CR-V or RAV4 aren't cars that get the best mileage either.

before I bought I asked my insurer for a quote on the RDX and the RAV-4. The quote was cheaper for the RDX by about 10%.

The cost, for me, to insure the RDX is CHEAPER than it is to insure my TL - assuming both are the same year and same coverage.

Wow the Rav4 is about 28~30K loaded but the RDX base is about 33K but i think the lowest i could probably get it is around 31K for the RDX. I was considering the RAV4, but loaded out it comes so near the RDX and why wouldn't i get a better car in all regards and for almost the same amount of money? Was anyone able to get lower than 31K? I know that edmund's TMV price is $31,707 for the base.

That's good to hear. Do you think the overall price difference from the RAV4/CR-V is worth it to get the RDX?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Your choice to make.

My opinion - yes, but I might be biased since the RDX will be my next commuter car when my TL lease is up.

That's a value judgment and everyone has different values. The 6 cylinder RAV4 has decent performance, but the interior and technology are much inferior to the RDX (cheap dashboard, no nav system, mediocre sound system) and when you get a decent set of options (leather, etc.) then the price is not much cheaper than the RDX. The base RAV4 and CRV are good basic small utility vehicles, but they are in a far different class from the RDX.

Today I run few insurance quotes with my company (MetLife). I am confused.

Among several vehicles (mostly higher priced), RDX would command the highest insurance premium! More than TL Type-S. More than BMW 335i. More even than Lexus RX400h!

Very strange. Maybe it's time to change my insurance company...

Get Geico or AIG, they're the most affordable around...i'm surprised that the quote would be that high. Try contacting other companies and they might give you more reasonable quotes.

Go w/ Geico. (well if u have been a customer long u get better discounts)
But RDX is rated as a really safe vehicle,
Just remind them the car has like 7-8 airbags, day-time running lights, low-jack/security alarm system, (and taking that defensive driving course helps knock it down 10-15%), you'll be great to go.
