average fuel economy, long term

This is Trip B average economy over 5200 + miles; 60% two lane country roads at about 50 mph, 20% in town and 20% highway.

Driven about 70% by my wife; fairly spirited -- she doesn't like to lose at lights -- and 30% more aggressively by me.

20 mpg average is better than I expected and would qualify for the Road and Track SUV Fuel Saver Club -- in company with many CUVs that get by on 60 some less horsepower.

For a performance vehicle that puts down 260 lt/lbs of torque with all four wheels I find this entirely acceptable. We get about 25 mpg in pure highway cruising.

(I reset B after I did the first A1 service.)

I have 11,000 miles and have not reset "Trip B" since I got the car and I'm at 18.1.

18.6 and I drive with a lead foot. My wife drives the car most of the time, so we'd probably be around 20 if I weren't allowed to drive it. :-)

My trip A which has been going for 16500 miles, is at 21.0mpg. Trip B with about 6500 miles on it, is at 21.5mpg.

Long term trip B over about 8000 miles is around 18. Doing my own calculations at the pump shows it to be about 1 MPG optimistic so that's around 17 real MPG.

I can barely get in the 22's (indicated which is in the 21's real) with cruise control at 65 on a flat highway. :-(

oh man that's disappointing. the epa estimates are always off. the rdx says 19 city/ 23 highway and none of you are really close to 23 highway. well, maybe with mixed driving 20-21 mpg sounds about right.

I believe the EPA issued new standards for ratings. The new ratings for the RDX are 17 city/22 highway for a combined rating of 19.

In Consumer Reports 2007 testing the RDX got 18 mpg overall. A quick review of other 4WD/AWD SUVs that also rated 18 mpg overall:

Chevy Equinox/Pont Torrent: 185 HP

Hyundai Santa Fe: 185 HP

Kia Sportage: 173 HP

Susuki Grand Vitara: 185 HP

Mazda CX-7: 244 HP

Acura RDX: 240 HP

Perhaps it would be better to think of the turbo 4s in terms of lightweight, free horsepower.
(The Acura dusted them all in 0-60)

Mixed city/hwy driving (80%/20%) = 11.5 L/100km. very similar to my old 330i, so given the RDX weight and AWD, this would be considered not stellar but definitely acceptable.

After over 12,000 miles and a driving profile of 50% suburban / 40% city-like / 10% highway, my long-term fuel economy is now at 20 mpg.

I'm over 23 highway. I'm 21.5 over the last 6500 miles and that is maybe 60highway/40city.

yikes. While I'm probably 95-98% city, I'm at around 17.5L/100km. Got 12L/100km on a 50km highway trip once though, and felt pretty good about that. It's been in for the A1 service, and the service people found nothing wrong.

I find the biggest impact for me still comes from outside temp, not driving style. In the winter I was bouncing around between 19 and 21 (21 being on the very high end). Now that summer is here, consistently 22-24. I don't recall seeing such a large seasonal difference with my other cars...

Actually I was quite impressed with the RDX apparent fuel economy, given that I also have to drive up to my home everyday which is located on a hilltop community. What I noticed though, is if i am driving a lot of short trips from my home to the mall below , the exocnomy goes down a lot. Not surprising.

Thanks XLR8R for starting this thread & the others for posting their mileages for long term. I will definitely use this to show people who bitch about the poor mileage all the time of the RDX. Some people just are never satisfied, & this just helps support us about how great the RDX is, even for decent MPG. Many are right over at the MDX board

I've driven over 16K Km and I'm averaging 12.5 l/km in 85% city driving.

BTW, I've been driving without a radio for the past week. The radio went kaputz just before the July 1st long weekend. Acura informed me that the part is in back order. Not a happy camper especially in stop and go traffic.

I've never driven an RDX, but based on that pic, do you have the navi or non-navi RDX? In my 04 TSX I need to look at my navi to see the mpg in my car instead of at the odometer.

Good but not great mileage

My average has always been about 21.5 50/50 driving mostly flat roads.
I do watch the turbo gauge often-I try not to go over the first 1/4 of the gauge when starting up from a stop. The more that gauge goes up means the more gas you are spiting out your exhaust.

Ouch. I probably go 90-95% city too....that doesn't inspire too much confidence. I drove an '02 MDX for two weeks, reset the trip computer when I started, and even then I got 16L/100km. No highway.

wow getting 20 MPG I think is really good for the RDX. I mean its a 4000 pound car with a turbo. I thought a lot of people werent happy with 20 mpg? Mixed driving in my TL I sometimes get about that but it is also much lighter and FWD. So it seems to me the RDX is getting good mileage.

I think it's more an issue of not everyone getting 20 MPG than whether or not we'd be happy with that number.

There seems to be some inconsistency with what people are getting. Some of it can be attributed to different driving styles, but some of it can't - like why I can't get anywhere near the 24 that other people are getting even if I drive with cruise control on a flat highway near sea level...? I get 18-19 overall with 75-80% highway - much lower if I don't hit the highway much. Mid-17s long term overall. Those latter numbers maybe could be attributed to my driving style, but when not even the cruise control can achieve a decent number I have to think that there is something about this car.

It's definitely something for me to bring up with the dealer at my next service.

And, if indeed there is nothing wrong with my car and somehow there is a way to drive it very conservatively (not sure how to drive more conservatively than the cruise control) and get decent numbers, I'd like to point out that my previous car weighed only 200 lbs less, put out similar engine power specs (from a turbo V6), was driven *way* more aggressively, and got better mileage than any of these numbers that I've seen reported, from 8+ year old technology. So, while I might be satisfied if I could get the numbers that others are seeing, I wouldn't necessarily call that mileage "excellent" either...

I can't speak for the non-tech version, but with the tech version, you can see the MPG in the MID or in the Navi trip computer screen.

It's the Tech package, which comes with Nav.

19,000+ km's

Since day one average is 11.7L/100km's or 24.14 mpg Cdn or 20.1 mpg US

Mix 30%hwy/35% rural/35% city.

Longest trip on freeway 15 km's one way so no really good highway runs as yet.
