Unhappy Acura 2009 DILEMMA

Hi

I need your expertise here..

So I bought a 2009 Rdx tech package from a used cars dealership 3 weeks ago, the odometer had 150000 km and it was for CAD$11,000..

Everything was fine ,i had all maintenance records which was done @dealership regularly, the price was good according to vmr Canada,a 3rd party mechanic did the inspection(our first mistake) and the report was fine.Actually the car looked like new, until I heard a strange squeak from the AC which turned out to be the blower motor blend..a problem that would need the whole dashboard to come out and a costy fix of CAD$ 1200+

And the mechanic told me there’s little rust around the gas tank door that needs work before it spreads(it was painted over)

Now I’m thinking it wasn’t a good deal afterall

So now I’m thinking of selling it back to the dealer, perhaps i’ll lose a couple of bucks but rather than paying for the fix...and getting the money, increasing my budget a bit and upgrade to MDX (though I heard it’s not that worth it)or trying to find a suitable Toyota highlander (so expensive😐 but reliable)

My husband disagrees and says it’s a great car and a steal..that I should leave it as is as long as AC is working until it breaks down, then we’ll fix it

I don’t have a lot of experience with cars, not to mention Acuras..and I don’t like change to be frank..

So I wanted a car that’s going to last for a long time,reliable,suitable for a family,economic and @good price

Sorry for the long post but I’d appreciate your advice

Thanks

The blend motor door is a common problem and doesn’t really require a fix. There are threads on how to grease the door to reduce the sound but it will work fine with or without a fix. Don’t really see the need to shell out money to remedy it. The rust is something that should’ve been inspected before purchase and is a personal option on whether or not it’s serious enough to fix. I don’t see anything here that warrants your need to have the dealer take the vehicle back at a loss. Sounds like you want a near mint car for a fraction of the cost. In the end it’s a decade old car in wintery Canada.

I’m looking those threads up now...I don’t want a near mint condition
i just want a reliable car with not a lot of regular issues that comes up .. that’s why i was asking whether or not it’s a good deal on the long run,is it worth the money or squeeze myself and try to increase my budget to get a better one..
considering that everything else is fine,no rust anywhere to be found, all the parts works good, not even a scratch on it except that tiny spot on the gas door..
i mentioned the highlander as i heard great reviews about it and how some calls it the car for life..
so what do you think?

There is nothing that coincides with reliability according to your concerns. The car, as is, will run for quite some time with regular scheduled maintenance. The rust isn’t a reliability issue and the blend door, while slighlty annoying, shouldn’t stop the A/C or heat from working. I’d be more concerned about a future compressor replacement than that.

Ok, have to pile on here to what is being said by IgottaTL. You bought an 11 year old car with 90k miles on it (sorry, from USA). So it has been driven less than 9k miles per year. And you have a spot of rust that has been painted over haphazardly, and a blend door that makes a noise but still works. If the car does not have frame rust, and starts and runs well, with all electronics working, consider yourself lucky. Do you know how many car repair places exist where I live? They are like casinos, they are not being built because people are winning money. Car repair places do not exist because cars never breakdown. Nothing you said indicates the car is a lemon. And you came out to the 1G RDX forum, so everyone still on here has their 1G car, and have it for a reason. They like it, and it has been a good car. Ask Mr. Gold and CS Money and TheWrench what they think about the RDX.

I have +175,000 miles on my 08 RDX Tech I purchased used in 2010. I've had minor "one-and-done" age related issues the last +6 years like:
- P/S pump (eBay used)
- all 4 coil pack
- radiator
- ivtec solenoid
- alternator

The blend door groan/creak was something I had fixed at the dealership +5 years ago and it came back a few months later. Everything still works other than the blend door noise at start up. The RDX is the perfect city car because of its turbo power, smaller size for tight parking spaces, better 360 degree visibility compared to the MDX, easy fold down rear seats, good size hatch, you can add a hitch in 20 mins for bike rack or cargo carrier, and sh-awd handling in any weather is the best bang for the buck. Letting my daughter borrow my RDX while she is on temporary duty in the Army in San Antonio. She loves driving the RDX around that town. The only thing she hates is having to put 91 octane gas every week because it only get 17-19 mpgs. I was only getting 15-16 mpg in my 11 MDX when I visited her last summer in the same driving environment.

No going to find something like the 1st Gen RDX at that price if you lean more towards being a sporty driver with a need for utility also. The RDX actually feels and drives better the harder you push her. Zero regrets on purchasing our RDX +10 years ago.
