2009 RDX grille blackout + hood refinish
I just got an estimate for painting my 2009 grille black and clear coat it from a local body shop. Are these rates ok?
Grille blackout and clearcoat = $120
Fix small ding on hood, fix 4-5 paint chipped areas and refinish = $330

typical hood completely repainted in my area is about 300-400 normally if they do it and you want to add a part since they have the paint already mixed should be an additionl 60-100 depending on size..
i would try different shops.. and see what there reputation is like.. I am very picky when it comes to paint, and alot of places want to do a quick in and out type of job..

I can see doing this with the 10 foreward models, but why the pre 10 models. The front end looks great.

I have decided to Plasti dip the grille now, it is supposed to come out really good. I hear you can peel it off very easily if you dont like the outcome. You dont have to remove the grille, just mask it. The best part is that a can of plasti dip at Home Depot costs about $6!!!!!
I know what I am going to be doing this weekend!!

Yeah, if it weren't for the lip then I'd consider doing a '10-'12 front bumper conversion.
Plasti-dip is the best thing to happen since spray paint! You don't even have to take the grille off.
So far no chipping. I previously used fusion spray paint and that began to chip. Plasti-dip seems to be more durable and not so brittle. Plus you can peel it off anytime.

Looks Beast, I did this to my 2010 accord... plasti dip is ideal for this application. Im picking up my 09 Rdx today, trading in the accord.
did you lightly sand down the grill prior to paint?

I did sand it down, but it is not required with plasti-dip. I have since peeled off the plasti-dip on the front emblem to expose the chrome. Very happy with the look.
