Nothing new to report. Just passed my fifth anniversary with the NSX. It’s essentially how I want it to be, with a few exceptions. It’s now got a little over 86.5k miles. All is well with the twin turbo kit. Here is a pic from a recent fall drive for your enjoyment.

Well, um...I broke it. It turns out that the fuel door is flimsy plastic and NOT aluminum, much to my chagrin. And 21-year-old plastic is brittle. So when I accidentally pushed the door forward while I was fueling up...well...shit...it broke! I already have a new door, but in the meantime I had some fun with my minor misfortune. I JB Welded the broken door back together and wrapped it in carbon fiber film. :rofl: It has been a nice icebreaker at Cars and Coffee for the last six weeks.

I can't believe it's been five years, either, and the time has flown. I thought for sure I'd be in a NC1 NSX by now, but a twin-turbo, less than 3200 pound, low 3-second 0-60 (estimated based on weight and power) car is too much fun to give up. This car is another keeper. It's also been 8 years with the manual V wagon and I'm still not tired of that, either.

Could have saved a lot of time and just said that you caught yourself a case of the @Steven Bell S!

PS JB Weld works like magic! This incident gives me an excuse to paint my Wings West lip and finally put it on, or maybe even address rock chips on the front bumper.

Nothing new. NSX has been in storage for over a month already. This is therefore the only way I can see it regularly. Thankfully, the Accord X’s clock face screen is easy to change.

Dang. I know the Accord has, uh, gotten "bigger" over the years, but that makes the NSX look positively tiny!

The Accord is an 18-wheeler compared to the NSX. :rofl:

First NSX mod of 2021: flat bottomed, carbon fiber, silver stitched, silver stripe steering wheel. Just received it today. It’s so much thicker than the stock NSX steering wheel, so it’s yet another modernizing touch for my car. #carbonfiberallthethings :rofl:

A fellow NSX owner created a bracket and sourced elongated screws, to hold an Element fire extinguisher in the glove compartment. It took me just under three minutes to install this little safety mod a couple days ago. This extinguisher sprays for 50 seconds and can handle some car fires. I hope I never have to use it for myself or anyone else.

Since it was “warm” (40’s F) yesterday in Cleveland, I spent some time in the garage installing my Euroboutique steering wheel. It took an hour, but now that I’ve done it, it would be a 15-minute install the next time. Because it had rained earlier in the day, salt was off the road. I started up the TT beast and did a nice, spirited drive for the first time in nearly four months. Man, it always feels good to get behind the wheel of the NSX.

Doing garage spring cleaning. Hard to decide which car to take a break in.

NSX going to paint booth shortly to have front bumper repainted to get rid of rock chips, and to have the Wings West lip I’ve been hoarding for five years painted and installed. After the paint cures, I’ll finally have clear bra installed on the front end. CTS-V manual wagon is going to have some scratches properly cared for in the paint shop.

I had my front bumper repainted this week and the WW lip I’ve been hoarding for five years painted. I wanted the stock lip off and when I offered to do it in the body shop’s parking lot 🤣 they gently suggested I keep it on for “structure”. Well...I picked my car up yesterday and while the paint was on target, the lip was installed so that the rear of it had only a two inch clearance from the ground, and it looked off.

Today, I got out the Goo-Gone, soaked the tape on the lip, peeled the sides of the WW lip off, took my stock lip off, and reinstalled the sides of the WW lip more correctly, including screwing each end into the bumper in the wheel well. Now clearance is around 4 1/2 inches on the sides.

Bottom we line: If you install a WW lip, result is far better if you take the stock lip off.

First is before (looks frowny), second is after 2 hours of work including time to drive to Autozone for replacement 3M tape (photo angle a bit off in the second)

Now for PPF in a few weeks.

I actually had put a front lip on the S5 last week...I was like, man...that is low...like 2 inches from the ground.
Basically undriveable. I pulled it. Anything that makes the car not able to be driven hard gotta go.

I passed through 95k miles yesterday. I’ve driven 36,000 of those miles in the last six years. I expect to hit 100k miles next season, given another cross-country road trip for NSXPO. So far this year, I’ve driven more miles in the NSX than in my RLX—I’ve driven 4k miles in the RLX, and around 7000 in the NSX :what: in about the same six month period.

I am so thankful for the people who helped me procure my car, all the people who’ve helped me mod and maintain my car, and the group for accepting this somewhat shy and quiet person (though I WILL talk NSX until your ears bleed, LOL) IRL into the group, with open arms.

NSXPOs: 5 (would be 6 if not for the year of woe that shall not be mentioned)
Number of U.S. states my car has been in under my ownership: 23

Track days: 11 (9 at NSXPOs, 1 at Mid-Ohio)
Total track miles: approx 600

Average fuel economy over 35.9k miles: 20.5 mpg…fuel economy tanked after SOS twin turbo set installed, now I’m getting 17-18 mpg

Number of gallons of gas consumed: 1632
Cost of fuel: $5686.69
U.S. barrels of oil consumed: 38.86

Cost of routine maintenance: still calculating but I’ve have done the last two oil changes myself. Compared to 2020, this year was cheap. Repainted front bumper this year $500. New A/C compressor + install $1100, CCU reconditioning $300, fan relay replacement $50, all this year.

Cost of mods: ROFLMAO even harder than the last time I did this. TT parts and labor including clutch and ECU and tuning was around $17.5k and that includes the excellent deal I got on the used TT kit…I am thankful…could have been lots worse

Daily drivers owned/flipped/traded since NSX ownership: 4 🤣🤣🤣
Total smiles per mile: Still countless.

Unboxing the next NSX mod: Sakebomb Garage's FPSpëc Öhlins DFV in grand touring spec. Many 1st gen NSX owners go with the less expensive, but very thoroughly vetted KW V3 suspension. However, after driving a NSX with the Sakebomb Garage setup, it felt so much better than either stock or my Bilstein shocks on regular streets, better than the KW V3s, and is reputed to do so well on track, that I decided to give it a try. It's yet another way to modernize the NSX to keep it relevant. If I don't like it on my car, they won't lose much value. Planning to get it installed after I pull the car out for the season in a few weeks.
