Low offset rims on 1st gen cl's....check in if you qualify
Hello all,
I'm new here, but have had a 97 CL 3.0 for awhile now. Used to daily drive my modded 93 accord til the engine took a dive this past friday.
I have a set of +33 16x7 rc stark rims on my accord that basically sit flush with the fenders with no finger gap. However, I'm wondering who in here is running a fairly low offset (mid thirties or lower) and if you could post your setup and perhaps pictures of how the car sits. I personally am into the completely flush look vs. the battleship sunk look, and am eyeing some Work VS-X's with big lip in gold, which would really set off the flamenco black.
So any pics/info would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if I qualify...but, I have Racing Hart Type C2 3-piece 18x7.5 +38 offset. They're pretty damn flush with my fenders. My friends were amazed that I don't rub because I have less then a finger gap all around. I'll try to snap some pictures later on, but for the time being you can search my the Photo Gallery for my most recent shots.

actually you were one of the people I was hoping to chime in, and glad you did I'm considering your exact same rims except staggered 7's in front and 8's in rear and +28 offset all around. I just wanted to see how it looks and what tire setup I'd need to avoid the rubbing issue, since I do not want to roll the fenders and run the risk of ruining the paint

edit: just checked your most recent shoot...rims look beautiful
but if you could get some direct side shots and closeup shots from the top of the fender looking down to show exactly how much clearance you have that'd be awesome

Yeah, I went a little overboard...
Sorry for the dirty car/wheels and messed up exposure/brightness/gamma in the shots. I was using a beat camera and my computer is broken so no Photoshop for me.
Also, keep in mind my camber is -1.5 degs in the front and -2.0 degs in the rear. And I'm running 225/40/18 tires.
This shot is up into the fender so you can see how much clearance I have right now.
I think if my camber was in more then I'd be rubbing...but as of now with this setup, I never rub, not even with a car full of people and luggage.

Thanks a TON for the pics, exactly what I was looking for!! Stance looks great...I'm planning on running 195's so, judging by your pics, I'd say I'd have a good half inch to an inch or so of extra play. Great stuff though man, I owe you one

^^ I know man, not optimal, but I'm looking for a super flush look, and trying to fit the biggest lipped rim I can. I'm currently running 205/50's on my accord's rims (RC starks) which look nice and all, but I'm going for a more aggressive stance with the CL. I'm hoping to find something with close to a 3 inch lip and clear with some camber and without rolling the fenders. Could be wishful thinking though...

I was going to try 17x9 wheels on the rear but the offset didnt work well and it was going to stick out a bit...
Then I almost got it anyways and was going to pull the fenders about an inch to make it work

oooh, what was the offset on the rears?
I'm thinking I should be safe with 17x8's in mid 20's offset...and use spacers as needed if there's still some clearance

by the way, here's a 5th gen with a slight amount of rear fender pulling, camber, and a decent amount of tire stretch:
Here are the specs..
BOTH on Falken 452's
Front - 18x8 + 20 215.35
Rear - 18x9 + 20 w/ 5mm spacer = +15 225.40

actually the car is perfectly safe, with exception of the extremely negative camber, but a lot of slammed cars run that type of camber all day. And with his huge tread width, it's not too much of a concern
he's since gone to a more conservative stance (by his standards)...which is more along the lines of what I'm looking to do with the CL:
but damn, I've gotta admit, those Axis' looked HARD, especially on a black coupe:

Hate to resurrect (how the hell do you spell that?), but I hate new offset threads more. I'm looking into 16x7's with a +30 offset as a "winter" set of wheels...how terrible are these gonna fit? I know they're gonna stick out a decent amount, but are they gonna clear? Thanks, sorry for bringing this topic and thread up

definitely this thread helps! especially since i'm looking to get 16x7 with +25 offset and curious to see how these would look on my car..i'm dropped on k-sports but wondering what tire size i should go with..i'm running 205/55/16 on the stocks right now but probably shouldn't put those on the new rims huh? anyone care to chime in and help a brother out?

i have the same spec rims. you are looking at at least 10mm spacers out back 5-8mm up front. and fine tune the camber. depends on how low youre sitting as well

I'll tackle this thread tomorrow, but with the mods blessing, I'd rather just create a large sticky thread regarding low offset wheels where I give examples of fitment and the limits of our chassis and what to kinda expect with certain sizing...it'd help me out too since my pm box is always flooded with fitment questions so this way I can just direct them to one spot

whats some of the lowest offset you guys are running?
new to the acura thing. on my 98 240 was running 18x9.5 +0 all around. wanna run something pretty aggressive on my acura as well.

I still have to shave off some more of the plastic rear bumper lining and maybe do a slight newspaper pull, but I'm running 18x8 +2 18x9 +12 effective, or 18x9 +33 and 18x10 +37
but it is tight credit card clearance all around. ~-5 camber out back and -2.x up front, full roll and a slight pull up front and out back. I'll get some more pics once it stops storming around here. pissin me off.
I learned a new secret though....I believe the skunk2 civic EF UCA's work with ours....and will allow for something up to -7 or -8 camber up front. You combine that with a 205 stretch on a 9.5, and I'm pretty darn confident you could pull off 9.5 all around with teen offsets no problemo
I'd try it out myself but not really in the market for new rims at the moment...still have to make fine adjustments on my setup so that the rears don't rub so much

Flip, you already have the ideal fitment for flushness as far as I'm concerned. Anything beyond that is starting to get silly. You already have the best looking CL in the history of modded 1st gen CL's.

but star i would stay away from that size, if you do take you car to the track or want to be fast... i would do like 18x9 all around... so you don't have to worry about it...
since you are doing custom flares you shouldnt have a problem

Should be really close, you can look up my thread where I testfitted the vs-xx's for picture proof
Mine were 18x9 +38 in the back, and only cleared inner clearance by a squished finger, maybe 5 or so mm I would guess, give or take a few mm
And the rears you want to run are 18x11 +20, so as far as your inner clearance that wheel would sit the same as a 18x9 +45, so 7mm more inward than mine sat, which is around the same if not a tiny bit more room than I had.
So if you do need a spacer it would be only a few mm I would think, based on my experience. I in no way endorse buying wheels on my opinion alone as everybodys cars are prolly a bit different, and we're talking about mm's here, and only rim specs, nothing about how the tires are going to clear, and I never did get tires at all for them or drive on them at all.
The reason why I didn't put mine on is because I didn't want to run a crazy stretched tire I wanted something more square which wasn't going to work without a big spacer and fender modifications. which as I can see from your post you are going to do anyways in terms of tires and fenders
