Tryin to determine whats' causing this "loose"steerin problem...

I'm wondering if I may be able to get better solutions from this forumn rather kept going to different repair shops with no results.

I have a 99 2.3Cl and when I drive on road surfaces especially when it's slightly uneven, the steerling wheel rapidly wobbles side to side. It feels really loose and unsafe especially when I drive in high speed.

I took it to firestone and the mechanic told me is this hydrolic system(forgot what he called it) that 's part of the rack and pinion so dunno if it's what's causing this problem. If anyone have similiar problem input is appreciated.

lift the front of the car and see if you can wiggle the front tires by hand, if you have play see where the freeplay is coming from.
most the time when i have this problem its bad tie rod ends

hydraulic system that part of the rack, uhhh power steering?

Ok it could be the rack and pinion(steering rack). I would more lean towards ball joints though. Not an easy job to do by yourself with out special tools. If you notice the steering wheel shakes while braking too ..I would definitely say ball joints over the steering rack.

Have they inspected the tie-rod ends for play? What about your lower ball-joints? If any of your joints have a rip or tear in the boot, they will fail very quickly and cause that sort of problem. Lower ball joints can make the steering act very crazy. I would try a different shop, or start looking into these things yourself by first jacking up the front end of the car and setting it on jack stands. Grab each wheel and wiggle it back and forth, up and down. There should be ZERO play. Once up, go underneath and

Visually check:

-Tie rod end boots
-Lower Ball Joint boots
-Upper ball joint boots

Physically check play in

-Tie Rod ends (by hand)
-Lower Ball Joint (with a crowbar between the lower arm and knuckle)
-Upper Ball Joint (by hand)
-Radius rod (by hand)

Issues with the steering rack and hydraulics are rare on hondas/acuras.
