SHIFTER stuck in "PARK"!

I have a 97 Acura CL 2.2

The "Horn" & "Stop light switch"(?brake light switch?) are on the same fuse and the fuse keeps blowing. But the main problem is that the shifter will not go into gear because of no brake lights. (This is a safety precaution supposedly) I replaced the brake light switch at the pedal, but as soon as I put the new fuse in again- I get brake lights for one push on the brakes, then the fuse blew again and I still have no horn or brake lights, with my shifter stuck in park! Does anyone have a clue what is going on?? Thanks-

J

Obviously something is shorted. Try taking out the brake light bulbs and seeing if the problem goes away. If it does, put them back in one at a time until you have isolated the problem child.

Also be sure you are putting in the right size fuse.

Since brake lights come on briefly when fuse is replaced, fault is more likely in horn circuit. Suggest disconnecting horn circuit from the brake light circuit (shop manual necessary or check wiring diagram at Autozone).

Check for ground on the brake light bulb socket 12v pin. It should be open. If ground is found, the problem is a short somewhere "downstream" of brake switch.

good luck

i have an 1998 CL 2.3, a few month ago i got the issue of lever stuck in park, in those days, to release the lever i had to push the brake repeatedly until i heard the release sound in the shift lever. But a month ago it wont work anymore and i have to do the screwdriver thing to release it. My brake lights works perfectly, what do u think i have to do with this, thanks a lot.
