Remote Trunk release not working

My remote trunk release is not working on my 1997 CL. Does anyone know where I should go to start troubleshooting?

tried unlocking it first, then holding the trunk button?

u can also try replacing the battery in the remote cuz if its weak it wont funvtion correctly

does it pop manually? if not it could be the cable

does the servo for the remote release connect to the cable?


on my remote, the trunk release requires me to grind it around with my fingernail, really hard, before it'll pop. i'm guessing it's just a dirty contact, but i haven't bothered to take it apart yet.

The battery doesn't seem weak. The light on the remote is still very bright.

Usually the microswitch in the remote fails where the contacts solder to the circuit board due to fatigue of force exerted when you press the button. Usually a new remote is necessary, as fixing is microsurgery work.

Thanks to everyone for their help. It was operator error. I had to hold down on the button longer and everything worked fine.

i have some aftermarket alarm on my car. i think i am going to just disconnect it. its the one with the little phone looking remote that works up to 1 mile away and tells you if someone broke into your car and which window and all that was broke, etc. but you cant do anything about it 1/2 mile or mile away. so whats the point. lol. it was on there when i bought it.

anyways, i DO have the origional remote, i hope its the origional atleast. just a different looking remote. if i were to disconnect the one i am using right now, would the other one automatically work?

i want my trunk to open automatically too.

If you have a after market alarm check the trunk release relay...

Thanks for the reply. I figured it out. I wasn't pressing down on the button long enough.
