radiator fluid bubling out of overflow

radiator fluid bubling out of overflow
I had some front end damage. Mostly the hood (had to get a new one) and the driver side head light. Also the bumper was scuffed. My car did not overheat today according to the temperature gauge but I found alot of air and radiator fluid coming from the over flow reservoir. I just picked it up from the body shop and drove around town for about an hour.
I also had a duh moment the other day. When I got home the night before my car was overheating. I checked it the next day and I noticed there was not much coolant in the radiator. I noticed that the cap to the overflow reservoir was off. this may have been due to the front end damage I had but I am not sure. So I had my duh moment and put oil into the radiator by mistake (I was not paying attention) I realized quickly what I had done and drained the radiator the next day and added new fluid (premixed). I just got home and noticed that there was alot of air and radiator fluid coming from the overflow reservoir.
Could a bad radiator cap cause this?
Could the problem be more severe?
Temperature guage looked normal like it always does. The needle was between cold and the half mark. I know the needle is not stuck as when I started the car today the needle was in the cold zone.
Not sure what to do at this point except to get a new radiator cap.

Yeah a bad rad cap can cause that. I had the same kind of problem before with my coolant boiling and it turned out my fan got unplugged somehow so it wasn't coming on at all, and when I checked that out the thermostat had killed itself as well lol, everything worked fine when I replaced it.
