Frozen Solid - and POSSESSED
Late to school this morning due to frozen car door.
Couldn't chip away ice.
It took two pitchers of steaming hot water over the door to open it.
I had to do it again this evening.
THEN I GOT STUCK INSIDE THE CAR.
The driver side door lock would stay halfway open and the handle would open all the way on the inside but the silver handle on the inside would not flick back into place once pulled and the door wouldn't budge.
The only lock that would move was the passenger door lock, and it would flick back into lock position immediately after unlocking, it was like the lock was possessed and didn't want me getting out!
So after a minute of struggling I yanked the door open the split second after pressing unlock and got it open before it could lock again.
Crawled out the passenger side and got out.
But as the door was open the lock kept clicking like it wanted to lock back into place until i shut the door.
Two questions:
Is it okay to pour hot water over the doors to get them open?
And what is happening to the locks?

you will have a moment of the lock being thawed, but then the water you just poured will freeze again while you are in it.
Use some wd40 or something similar... that wont freeze, and will lubricate
If you have some, go do it right now because it will push the water out of your locks and prevent corrosion.

my cl would do the same thing, not all the time, just when it would go from hot to cold wuickly, like after a carwash etc... and the passenger door is locking again because the driver's door isn't unlocking, so it locks itself back up... i dunno why either
but ya as said, don't use hot water... you can try a hair dryer if it's not too cold out tho
