CEL on...took it to autozone and it didnt throw any codes
whats up guys....so my CEL has been on for years...car has run fine.. i took it to a mechanic in november and he said a rear o2 sensor needed to be replaced along with the ERG valve. i never did the repairs at that point.
well now i need the CEL off ASAP to pass emissions. i took the car to autozone today to check the CEL....it didnt throw any codes at all...the autozone person said the CEL light must be on by mistake or the CEL light is malfuctioning...
does this sound right? should i take the car to a different autozone and check again??
'98 2.3CL 5speed ~ 143,xxx miles
as always, thanks guys!

its not the gas cap...how do you reset the ECU? unhook the battery? how long does it take for the check engine light take to come back on if there is a problem after you reset the ECU?
thanks guys
thanks guys

Autozone should have been able to do that while you were there. With my scanner you just press and hold a button in to reset it. Unhooking the battery for a certain amount of time may do it as well. I think within 30 miles it should come back on with most CEL (at least if they are going to inspect it, they want you to drive it 30 miles after a reset) some may not take as long as others and some may take longer. I don't think there is a predetermined amount of time before it comes back on

definitely reset the ECU and see if it comes back

so i went to a different autozone today and they got it to throw codes immeadately.
as always, need your help guys
P1298: electric load detector (ELD) circuit high input probably cause/ poor electrical connection/ failed ELD
P0138: Secondary H02s12 (heated oxygen sensor- bank 1 sensor 3) circuit high voltage; short circuit condition/ fuel system faulty- rich condition/ faulty sensor
P1491
ERG Left insufficient detected probably cause/ poor electrical connection/ failed ERG valve
my best friends mom works for an auto parts distributer...so i am going to go ahead and order a new ERG valve and 02 sensor (i had a mechanic tell me to replace both of these back in November so i know they are bad)
however, i dont know what to do with the first code:P1298
do you guys know what this is?

The ELD is essentially a current transformer that monitors the amount of current draw the car is pulling from the battery. This amount varies from time to time depending on what you have turned on (various electrical devices). The ELD will output .1 - 4.8 volts to the ECU. This reference voltage is what tells the ECU to increase or decrease the field strength in the alternator, which in turn bumps up the output of the alternator.

Quick question; I had a amp and sub in the car for a long time. I took the amp and sub out about 2 yes ago. The CEL has been on for over 2 yrs. Could the amp have caused the ELD code from when it was connected years ago? I am hoping this was the problem and once we reset the CEL it will be back off for good
