CEL light comes on randomly

I have a jdm h22 swapped into my cl. The car runs fine but sometimes the check engine comes on and the vtec doesnt work. Is it bcuz my solenoid is going bad? I checked my connections to my ecu and everything looks good.

I don't have much experience with an H22 swap. but, it could possibly be a solenoid failure, or the solenoid might not be getting enough oil pressure. low oil pressure could be caused by low oil level, or bad oil pump, but I would check filter screen at the vtec solenoid. those can get plugged up and cause a CEL.

Lightbulb Random CEL On?

Have the paperclip ready. When it comes on, pull that blue connector out, short it, and get the code. It may get easier to find out what it is if it gets progressively worse. Then the light would stay on longer.
