99' 3.0 CL high idle rpm

Hey guys, I did some searching and could not find anything on my SPECIFIC topic.. so ill ask here.

when I start my car after not driving it for around 6 hours or so (any temperature outside), it seems to idle at around 1,200 rpm. So when I put it into reverse, it jerks the car back pretty hard.

Also wanted to state that when I put it in Neutral the RPM decreases to about 800.

Any solutions? thanks!

When the engine is cold, your idle will be higher in order to bring the engine to the normal operating temperature. When you start shifting around it will decrease to the normal 700-800rpm as the load from driving will increase the temperature. You may have noticed that the transmission tends to shift later when the engine is cold. This is also to increase the temperature.

Unfortunately excessive shock when shifting into reverse could be due to many reasons. I suggest start by looking at your engine and transmission mounts. Check ATF level. Maybe even a simple fluid drain and fill may help. Then start troubleshooting the tranny.

Thanks Nakamichi for the response.

I forgot to add that after the engine is warmed up, there is much less jerking when putting it into reverse..

Im hoping that helps determine what the culprit would be?
