'97 CL auto make wheel noise turning in parking lot

I just bought a used '97 3.0 CL automatic with 130k miles. While turning left or right in a parking lot, the front wheel's "click" loudly. Sounds like roadkill banging it's furry head inside the wheelwell. It's that loud. It does not occur at highway speeds, just low speeds. Is this:
1. Rust on the rotors?
2. Driveline related?

What's the fix? Is there a TSB or recall?

Thanx in advance,

could also be something as simple as loose wheel lugs.. i know it sounds ridiculous but you wouldnt believe how many times i've seen this before.
its a scary thought to say the least

I took the car to a mechanic today. After hearing the loud clicking noise himself, he placed it up on the hoist, reved the engine and applied the brakes to the spinning front wheels to check some more. He then poked around under the chassis and ten minutes later gave me the car to take it for a spin around the block. The first thing I noticed was that the clicking noise greatly diminished and only occured in a narrow speed band of around 5 MPH in a tight right hand turn. He almost cured it and it's a whole lot less noisy now. When I asked him what he did he explained that the passenger side axle had been installed incorrectly and that he "pushed the axle out more". Since English was his second languge, I take it to mean that he adjusted some type of alignment different from where it was prior. Although the CV boots were intact, he felt that the center and passenger side shaft are still a candidate for replacement. I was not charged anything for his time. :

Can anyone tell me what sort of adjustment done in about five minutes can have that dramatic effect?
