sounds like it could be causing a short?

make sure the connectors are clean and making proper contact

what happens if you simply use the old 74 bulb while running the new LED's?

Are your #74 led bulbs getting all the way into the cluster? I had to scrap the 74 led bulbs cuz they wouldn't fit into the shallow spots in the cluster. Maybe your twist sockets aren't making contact correctly? Going out on a limb, but it's the only thing that makes sense from my experiences and I've replaced my console LED's 3 times

I just changed the bulbs out a week or two ago. The display is sooo much brighter than the lame stock lights. i don't get that stupid light flicker problem on that part now too.

A better pic of the final results (from my car). Also for the #74 type bulb you can use an incandescent blue #74 bulb with no problems. If you want to use a #74 LED then you will have to mod the bulb - I strongly recommend using just an incandescent for the #74.

If you don't replace the #74 bulb then your "80 mpg" area will be a bit dimmer than the rest of the gauge. Some people can handle this, other people who are perfectionists will be bugged by this like crazy.

This picture of the cluster gauges are different than stock. The picture here shows little lines between the main numbers on the RPM and Speed Tachs. Is this a different cluster panel or what?

Arrow Looking for advice

Has anyone ever experienced the bulb going out for the low fuel light? I have run my car on extremely low fuel and the light still does not turn on. Do I need to get deep into the back of the cluster panel to find the bulb and replace it, and if so what size bulb is it?

Also, is there a way to change the colors of the clock and thermostat panel colors?

And whoever had the carbon fiber panel overlay, where did you get it?

I just bought my car and wanting to really make it look good, both inside and out. I understand this is the instrument gauge color forum so I am trying to stick with that category. I hope to get some assistance.

as soon as i saw this thread i purchased LEDs from two companies: autolumination.com and superbrightleds.com. both companies are excellent when it comes to shipping it took 3-4 days for delivery using the regular method. items bought: 4 red refractor (#168), red 3 led #74, and two #74 uv light color, total cost with shipping $30. the #74 are quite big for the socket in the clusters so i suggest that u buy them with the sockets included. Or u could also file the bulbs until they fit the socket. 30 min to install. our needles doesnt illuminate so the 2 top #74 does the job. for 97 cl, the needles are white so i thought of UV leds because they give this glowing effect on whites. I was overall happy with the results...

Has anyone painted the gauge cluster plastic overlay?? I am thinking about painting it dark grey to go with my interior color scheme but am wondering about what effect the paint will have on all of the cluster icons that light up? If someone has painted it please let me know if the icon lights still shine through, pics would be cool too

It's a seperate place, just paint this piece, I think you mean the overlay not the guage faces. Paint this part, it wouldn't have any affect on the lighting up of the guages, just tape off all the squares and paint the rest

Yeah thats the piece i am referring too...im wondering if i paint everything without masking anything off will the icons still be visible when lit up? seems that trying to mask off so many little rectangles would result in a messy paint job

I would mask them off individually but I'm anal like that, you could try it, I don't think the output would be very good at all, you coul also try just sanding the paint off them after you painted them, but don't know how that would go

LED bulbs are generally pretty bright, 4 or 5 wide led's fit in our clusters, with blacklight, you may have to turn your dimmer up a bit more, but i'm sure you'll get some deccent output, especially with the 2 bars wired in the front
