9005 to 9005 low beam conversion

Estimated time: ~30 min

Tools:
Dremel / cutting tool
Knife or blade

With this conversion you should be able to increase your output from your stock halogens by a lot. Take a look at the 9005 bulb as opposed to the 9006. Notice how the 9005 has the tip covered in that grey stuff, essentially cutting down on light output.

Instructions:

1. Take your 9006 bulbs and compare them with the 9005. Notice how the top notch on the 9006 is a bit smaller than the 9005, also note that the 9005 has two "prong" thingies inside. Take your dremel or cutting utility and cut a bit off the top notch, maybe a cm or so. Then file down the two prongs inside. Put the bulbs back in, replacing the 9005's with the 9006's and you're done.

Note: when I did this with my stock halogens I notice a significant difference in brightness, when I did it with some aftermarket superwhites, I couldn't really tell. Others on this board have, so just take that into consideration.

Doing this completely destroyed the beam pattern on my '99 3.0. Yes, there was significantly more light but no, it was not usefully focused at the road.

With how cheap HID's are these days, I don't really think anyone should do this mod.
