Unhappy 1997 2.2 Instrument Panel Bulb

Hey guys have a strange problem I can't seem to figure out. One of the two bulbs at the top of my cluster went out, the bulbs that shine down to illuminate the needles etc. The bulb is supposedly a 1.4W #74 but I bought a pair and it doesn't fit the socket/holder for the bulb. The #74 bulbs are fatter than the ones in my car. They have thinner bulbs that are the exact same size as mine but the wrong voltage/wattage.

Anyone know if the bulb is different for the 97s as opposed to 98-99? I wouldn't mind swapping them both out for LEDs but don't know what to buy since the #74 bulbs don't fit.

I replaced mine in my cluster but I actually had a spare cluster that I took the bulbs out of so I am not sure what size they are supposed to be. Mine is a 97 also by the way. I will walk out to the building tomorrow and look if you don't figure it out before then

Alright I went ahead and got a #74 bulb from a local place for $1 to show the difference between that and the bulb that was in my car. The #74 bulb has the blue part in it and is too big for the socket. Still need help getting the bulb or the correct LED replacement.

here is a picture of it. I have read the s14 may be a E74 instead of #74 which would be a European model. I am not sure about this just something I read

Funny thing is that the working bulb that is in the car has the number 74 on it but it's not the same size as the #74 bulb I bought today. Don't know what's going on.

do you think it could be a E74? I have no idea what the difference is I just read on line that someone thought the S14V was a E74 instead of a regular #74

Wish I knew, all I saw was the number 74 on it and most of that came off when I pulled the bulb out of its holder. Now I can't read what it says. Going to give the dealer a call tomorrow to see if they can help out at all. Didn't think such a small bulb could be so hard to get lol.

Followed a thread from another forum and someone said it could also be size 24. The picture of the S14V bulb looks just like mine, a slim #74.

Anyone know if these bulbs would fit? The socket looks identical to mine from what I can tell. Maybe someone here has tried these exact bulbs before.

Well I got tired of trying to find the bulbs at a reasonable price. I found them on a few websites as European width bulbs. I went to a local junkyard yesterday and got lucky. They had a single CL with the instrument panel intact. took it apart and got the two bulbs out. Nothing like free replacements.

I need to find one of these bulbs as well. I somehow damaged one of them when I rewired the tach.

I'll probably take you up on that. Just have to check that it isn't a bad connection and I'll let you know.

heck man I will give you the bulb. I have my kids this weekend but since I am on disability any time is pretty much good for me, just let me know and I can meet you somewhere off of 85 or something, that way it will be kind of between you and I and all (well I guess anyway, not sure where you live)
