Wood Wheel for all(dyar1)
I am considering getting the 2001 MDX wheel for my 98 CL and I see that you have done this to yours. I need to know, are you positive the airbag will deploy just as with the stock wheel. Does the metal center of the MDX wheel match identically to the CL? I have to ask man, I would love to ride with a wood/leather wheel, but I don't want to jeopardize my safety just for some looks. If anyone knows please let me know here or at my email asiegel@vt.edu if at all possible. Thanks a lot guys.....

Yea i looked into it but the horn buttons are in part of the wheel where the airbag on the 98s covers where our horn buttons would be so the new steering wheel for the 97 would have a gap between the airbag and wheel plus no horn. The only fix would be to get the whole airbag assembly off a 98 or 99 or get a custom wheel made.

Sorry to go on about this, but what exactly happens to the airbag during the process of changing the wheels? Do you take it off and then reattach it. I just want to make sure there are no problems because the local acura service advisors assured me the whelw ould not fit properly. After seeing pics on this site I know they are wrong, but I just need to be sure it is an exact fit and in no way the air bag functioning could be jeopardized.

Whats up
The airbag will deploy properly in an accident. If something was wrong with the system, the airbag light would be on. The airbag fits perfectly with no modifications. The holes line up perfectly and it only takes about 30 minutes to do.
The MDX wheel is slightly darker, but really not noticable. My suggestion is to get a TL wheel because I think the color matches better and also the wood is thicker. I just got the MDX wheel because I found it for $200 on ebay. Usually, they are around $300.
I acura dealer told me also that the wheel would not work. Guess I proved them wrong. The reason they say that is probably because not many people have actually tried it, and they really just don't know if it will work. I guess they just wanted to give you and I an answer without researching if it would fit. I can't wait to show the service guy next time my car is at the dealer !
If you(or anyone) needs instructions on the wheel install, just email me or post.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info guys. dyar1, I will need a copy of those instructions. If you could sent it to asiegel@vt.edu it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I noticed the 2 people who have the mdx wheel have 99 cls. Mine is a 98. Same steering column correct? Thanks again guys
