Why an H22A? Why not a 3.0?

The 3.0 gives you 200 HP (but only 160 HP to the wheels due to losses in the auto tranny). The h22a allows more of the 200 HP to make it to the wheels (when coupled with a 5-speed manual).

Odd thing is though, that the TypeS loses only 23% (200/260). Is your auto tranny that much worse?
What you have to realize is that it is a percentage loss and what you have to compare with the type S is the proportion or hp lost, not the exact. So the 3.0, assuming same loss as the 3.2 (~23%), should get around 155-160 to the wheels.

I've seen several dynos over on AV6 which showed the HP at the wheels to be from the mid 150's to the low 160s, stock. This would make sense if you account for 20% power loss through the tranny 200 - 20% = 160HP.
I've not had mine dyno'd, so I can say from personal experience.

Dyno
Most cars usually dont dyno at their advertised HP rating stock to the wheels anyway, whether they have a Auto or a Manual Transmission. I think 0-60 speeds are the way to go in determining where you are performance wise.
From Car and Driver:
Most of our limited time in the new CL was spent in the Type S, and it was pleasant time, indeed. Our hand-timed 0-to-60-mph runs fell in the neighborhood of about seven seconds, which is certainly quicker than the last 3.0CL we tested, which sprinted to 60 mph in 7.8 seconds. The Type S seemed oddly slow off the line, but midrange power was excellent.
