Well...Sadly, It could happen. I might get a dif. car...
Hey Everyone...
Well, in the past month or so, my car has gone to shit. Its been in the shop about every week, sometimes more than once. First the cv boots, then some o-rings, then the egr valve, then the o2 sensor, then the wheelwell...and so on and so forth...Its got 145K now...and the shits falling apart.
My parents and I got to talking, and they think it'd be smart for me to get another/different car. The only prob is...I'd have to take a break from school, get a full time job so I could afford car payments, and then continue with nightschool and get my degree over time. School hasnt been going so great anyway, so this might be a serious option for me. I'd like to save the CL, remove the insurance on it, put it in storage, and have it be my project car like ive been wanting to do...
But anyway, I was talking to my parents, and they said they would support me with whatever I decided.
Well, I've found what I want. It dosnt come out until next Fall...I was just wonderin what you all thought...
2007 Saturn SKY "Redline" - 2.0L 260hp Turbo.
I guess I was just kinda wondering what you all thought....I know you guys know ur cars...So I was wondering ur opinions...I guess my whole mindset is, Ive had a 2 door, no one is ever in the back seat. Im going to be 21 soon, my girlfriend of 6 yrs just broke up with me, if im going to buy a new car, i def. am joing to get something that I WANT....and hell, im in my bachelor years...how baller would it be to roll around in alittle roadster...and hell, its a turbo, and ive ALWAYS wanted a turbo! (cant get enough of that "blowoff valve" sound!

All Saturn cars are .
I know it looks pretty, and you are going through some kind of early-life crisis, but you would be a fool to by that car brand new.
OK, you are in school, but you are going to drop out (temporarily) to get a job to pay off a 2007 model car. I'm guessing you have money, because the Tag, Taxes, and Insurance and all that are gonna be huge.
And if I were gonna shell out that kind of money, it sure wouldn't be for a Saturn. They are known for bad electrics, cheap interior componentry, etc. I mean REALY, if you want a roadster, score an S2K. Then when you see one of those Saturn Sky cars rolling you can hand him his ass.
I bet the 2.Xs would eat that car alive. As for your 3.0CL, If it is falling appart, maybe you should rethink the way you drive and maintane it. And if you keep it for a project car, you better think about getting a beater so you don't have to spend all your money paying down the depriciation on that new SATURN SKY.
Good luck.

All I have to warn you about, is you're 20 with no degree, and granted you probably live with your rents, but payments on that car, not to mention insurance will be a bear. You're gonna need to find a pimp job to afford all that, but we wish you luck with whatever you decide. And hopefully you'll keep teh CL for a project car, if not, I know a LOT of people on here would love to buy your cf hood

Any car can look good brand new, but that Redline is going to end up being a peice of shit.
I don't know what your budget is like, but I would look into a used S2000. I sold my 2002 S2K with 50K for $19,000. I had it for a year with not a single problem and it was a lot of fun.

no man, dont get the Saturn. The electronics system has been notorious for its problems, and the resale value is horrible.
Look around for something with a little more reliability. Personally, i wouldnt go new if i was you. The cost of new car + new car insurance, tax, fees, and title will be more than a recently turned 21 year old should be paying ( unless of course you're loaded, which you've made clear you're not).
Look into something 2-3 years old with low miles
My suggestion for some cars are:
BMW 3 series- popular yes, but one of my favorites. Handling, safety, features, looks, it's an absolutely beautiful car.
Honda S2000- if you really want the roadster, this is it. High rev, RWD, easily tuned, sexy as hell.
Subaru WRX/STi- Maybe a little more money, and i'm not a fan of subie's, except for this one. AWD, the boxer engine is tough as hell. I think the only drawback is the spartan interior.
Lexus IS300- Sure, it's a little older, but I love mine, and the engine has a beautiful exhaust note with minor work, and it's RWD. You can pick one up with navi and a stick, and still not break the bank. The 2jz engine isnt the same cast block as the Supra, but it's aluminum, and still good for 500-600 hp without worry.
those are just some examples, good luck man.

OK, this probably should have been a POLL. This is dumb, almost everyone here has said don't buy the Saturn.
Take that for what it is.
If you want to be the next young man to step up to the "got out, now I'm trying to get back in trip," go for it. Quit school, buy the Saturn, then grab your ankles and get ready for a no lube ass raming.
Otherwise, get something sensible, stay in school and save your money for a nice car that you will love when the time is right.

My opinion would be to stay in school and buy an older civic. Civics are cheap as hell to maintain and you can do everything yourself on it. Buy like an EK, or an EJ, even and EM1. You get those for around $4,000-$5,000. Throw your CL in sotrage and work on it gradually like you had planned, and take your insurance off of it to save some money. If you hate civics with a passion for whatever reason, then look at an older Honda that you like and would be cheap to maintain. In general, all Hondas are easy as hell to work on yourself and maintain yourself.

All Domestics generally have more horsepower & torque compared to the Azn whips.
But over time, the domestics will generally have more recalls/TSB's and other niggly probs compared to azn rides.
It may look nice and is initially cheaper, however the resale/reliability factors suck sh*t for domestics too. Azn rides rule. If you want a great car, get the new Civic SI, makes me wet my pants thinking bout it all juiced up and dropped to its knees.
Stay in school, save the money, graduate, meet a hot girl, and spend it on a her at all the expensive ho'tels

I would def. garage the car if it is gonna cost you too much to drive every day. Get something a little better than a saturn. Used s2ks can be had for under 23k. Beemers are nice, but maintanence cost are crap. American cars are starting to get better and better, but they still cant hold resale for crap.
You could even buy a new mx-5 for that price. And personally I would rather have that over any saturn.

what do yall think about 91-96 300zx's? I think the design from early 90s still looks good today, and you can get one in good condition for under 9k. I guess youre looking for something new than that though?

how handsome I am
damn. reading this breaks my heart. If you finally decide to get a new car, please try and consider keeping the CL as a sideproject... and DO NOT sell those rims... you spent way too much time and effort looking for those.

Stay in school CJ, I took a semester off and it was SO hard to go back, stay in school, get your degree, then you can make money and buy a real car
