Warranty and CAI

Warranty and CAI
I have a 99 3.0 CL and recently have been experiencing transmission slippage and very rough shifts. I was getting ready to schedule an appointment with my local dealership when I remembered that I installed a CAI about 9 months ago. I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues with the extended warranty (purchased at the dealer) and having a CAI. If there have been issues I will just take it out and replace my stock intake system, there is no way that I will pay for a new tranny becasue I installed a CAI. Just wondering if anyone had any knowledge on this subject.

I have heard of dealers trying to get out of doing work any way they can. Some even claim unrelated aftermarket parts void warrantees. Just to be safe, I'd just take it off and replace it with the stock one.

I ended up just calling my local dealer and asking them if a CAI would cause transmission problems on a CL, and the service guy just told me no, the transmission causes transmission problems on the CL, good to know that they have a sense of humor. Anyways I scheduled an appointment to take it in and we will see how it goes.

The dealer can/may give you grief when you try to get warranty work done if they see mods done.
However, the dealer must prove that the modification caused the problem that you are trying to fix under warranty.
The Magnusson-Moss Act protects the consumer from having our warranty work voided by stating: (paraphrase) A manufacturer can not revoke warranty unless they can prove that the failure was directly caused by Non-OEM modification. Additionally, specifically referencing air filters, Warranty's can not be voided by air/oil filters by the manufacturer unless they provide them at no cost.
Some dealers have said that modified parts by Comptech will not void the warranty.
This is because Comptech works closely with Honda Racing.

The extended warrenty should garrantee the work will be done. I wish I had bought one, but I purchased the car from an individual, and the local dealer wouldn't hear it without some high-priced mutli facite inspection process. It is not in the dealer's intrest to do these repairs free of charge. But in your case, I do not think the mods will cause you a problem. Good luck.
