VERY rough idle came and went?

ok, so last night Iw as really low on gas, and the gas light was on adnd very bright. I think I filled up about 14.7 gallons, so there was probably still some gas in there since I have filled up 15.4 before. So anyways, last night I started up teh car and put it in reverse, adn it died... I thought "Oh shit, I'm outta gas, how embarrasing", but I tried it again adn I had enough gas to fill it up.

So today I go to school, go visit my parents house, and when I go back outside to start my car it starts fine, but it starts idling REALLY LOW, like 100-200 rpms, and the car starts shakign then dies. I thought "WTF" but tried it again, same thing hapened but before it died I gave it some gas and it reved up then dropped low and started shaking agian, gave it some more gas, went back down adn shook again. So I turn it off, go inside and check here. did a big search on idle, and all kinds of other stuff, but coudnt' find an answer that was consistent. Anyways, I went back out there started it up, gave it some gass for a little bit while idling (10-15 seconds) adn then let it go. It started idling like normal again(~500-1000 rpms).

This is the only time it has happened, and I don't know if it will happen again, but if anybody can tell me what it might be if it's just a one time thing, or if it keeps happening or any other symptoms to look for.

Thanks a lot in advance people.

Same thing happened to me before after driving for a while and trying to start it up again. It only happened once and no idea what it could be.

funny you should post this....i have been having the same prob with my whip lately....how many miles u got...it's weird cuz i just did tune up incl fuel filter and it still occasionally happens...i would say its the fuel pump but if it were you would feel hesitation at many diff speeds....if you ask me, i'd say its some kinda idle speed/control motor or suttin....who the fuck knows about these crazy cars anyways!?! oh yea, an easy remedy to this is to leave the heater/defroster on when you shut the car off, b/c the blower forces the idle up a lil....hope this is helpful

I have the same problem. Somebody here said that it was because of the way the CL fuel pump was designed. Best thing to do is to fill up once the tank gets below 1/2.

I'd throw a can of dry gas in it... during seasonal changes, condensation forms inside the tank.

yep the engine needs a few turn overs to get going with anything below 1/4th tank on my car... i think it is weak fuel pump... the declined position makes it hard to start when there is less than half tank. A commonality we share i believe.
