V-AFC Vtec controller
Anyone install a v-afc in their 99 CL 3.0. If so, does it function properly? I was told that the vtec control side of it will not work and that only the fuel managemnt works for some reason. Any sugestions?
Thx

If by "the vtec control side" you mean being able to set what rpm the vtec engages/disengages at, then YES it DOES work. And although there are no "aftermarket" cams, you can get the type-s cams. There's a group buy going on for these now at http://www.v6performance.net/forums/...582&forumid=75

Thanks alot guys...All this info was very helpful. Two questions though. The wiring looks very simple to hook up, the only thing is that apex's wiring diagrams arent too clear and when you go to their website its not to clear either. They have the wiring diagram on the manual and then have an updated wiring diagram which is totaly different. What diagram did you guys use to make it work properly?
Also, what cai do you thing is best for this car and where did you get it.
Im also gonna look into the type s cams.
Thanks alot and sorry for the bother. I just purchased this CL.

if you have questions on a vafc for a 3.0 ask me or luckyax i have one installed on my 3.0 and i love it and recommend it to anyone.
the wiring was tricky i took mine in to a shop to get it done just cause i was busy and the digram that i needed to use was the one for the odyessy van for honda, thats what the shop told me.
the vafc will help with vtac engagement and setting it to you liking, i have mine currently set at 4000 rpm's everyone says the vtec engages at 4300 stock but they are wrong cause when you turn on the vafc when you are setting it up it takes and configures the setting that the car has to teh vafc and it shows you that the stock setting is 5300, yes everyone 5300!! i know everyone says 4g or so but my vafc doesnt lie to me just like my girl
if you want more info or pics of the vafc pm or email me @ jgiguere17@yahoo.com or aol im is always on 24/7 my name is the same jgiguere17
the type-s cams i know someone that has them installed on the 3.0 as well as a type-s throttle body but he took it off cause it was idling too high and the engine didnt like the throttle body but the cams are good, they are for more higher rpm range gains. they are worth the money and the time to put it cause our cars are slow in the low but once you get to the high you get toasted and with the vafc my high rpm range is cool and i can engage the vtec in the 3,4,5 auto gears when flooring it it engages going into every gear its cool
good luck with modding
cai for your 3.0, most go with AEM but i prefer INJEN just considering i like the style and the looks and the sound of the INJEN, overall the INJEN is more $$$ but you get what you pay for i have a short ram but my short ram kicks ass

I have always felt the surge in power kicks in at close to 3k or maybe 3.5k rpm, like the rpm just RAN from 3k to red line... something wrong with this ?
Is it just the transmission downshift? or something is up with my vtec controller ? My car is totally stock ! its a 3.0

When my VTEC kicks in in the first gear it stays engaged throughout my gears if i floor it, key thing is that if i floor it, it will stay engaged, i have it to engage at 4000 and disengage at 3900
I feel the power in the controller, i feel the kick when it engages and i do hear it as well, i get heads to turn when i floor it, thats why i like mine
the fuel settings how ever you need to take to a dyno and have them set, because it is different for every car. i have tried to mess around with it and mess with the settings manually with out a dyno and the help of the trusty "butt dyno" hopwever if you adjust the controller i would purchase a a/f guage to monitor your setting cause too much and you can fuck up your engine for life i have seen it happen
good luck
