tune up help
how's everyone doing, i was hoping sum1 here could answer my question about my car specs.
i plan to tune up my 97 acura cl 2.2 now that its nearing 90k miles. i just bought the car on 12-15-08, and i know the history of the car. its transmission had been change in 2006, and now i plan to change transmission fluid with atf z1 (recommended)
but im curious if my car has a serviceable filter?
i could call an acura dealer but i know after that i be asking them how much theyll charge me for a service with new pan gasket, flush and filter cost.
also my plan is to drain it agn with new filter and fluid, after couple week so that debris can be remove.

if ur talkin bou the tranny filter, its a serviceable filter. and yeah acura will rip u off to the fullest. and as far as fluid in ur tranny goes.. NO FLUSH....fluid change, drain and fill.

lol I aint pro, but my mexican neighbor is hes the one who recomended i change the tranny filter also, and thats what i meant
with my last post is it simple (change tranny filter) for a novice like me to do, my bad if i sound confusing.

hahaha yeah....but its up to u...if u can pull it off thats awesome, many pplz on this forum does it or done it before. me personally i dont touch the tranny. but yeah good luck with it though, stick around post some pix and welcome to the Zine Mike, im Mo.

@Mike: if you want a professional to handle this for you, i would recommend going over to Tech3 in San Jose. i take my car over to Winston and he definitely knows his shit and uses nothing but OEM genuine honda parts. tell Winston that your from the forum and that i sent you, ask for a quote and he's pretty reasonable. give it a shot!

As far as just changing the tranny fluid, it is easier than changing your oil. You drain the fluid through the bolt on the bottom of the tranny and then refill through the dipstick or there is also a bolt you can remove on top of the case to refill faster. And you had the right idea about performing multiple changes, most people do a 3X3, which is changing the fluid three times and drain/refilling 3 quarts at a time. I've never heard of our cars having a serviceable filter like the tl's but I might be wrong.

if automatics have a servicable filter, this is the first i'm hearing about it....
as far as flushing, search around, a while back a round a few methods for fill, dump, fill dump ect....

our autos don't have a serviceable filter, you have to drop the tranny and remove the casing to even get to the filter

just want to add when i loosen the drain plug and look at it
it looked like a metal magnet, but the dipstick didnt pick up any metal though.

Here is a good write-up for a Prelude.. which is identical to the CL.

Be sure you get a new drain plug crush washer.. they are one time use only.
Should only cost about $2 from an Acura or Honda dealer. The auto trans. washer is larger and thinner than the oil drain plug washer. Clean the magnet off reeeal good. It should have fine metal particles, but no chunks or shavings.
* don't overtighten the drain plug.. it only needs about 30 lb-ft
* do not overfill! Should be slightly below the top of the crosshatched zone on the dipstick.
