True CL punishment.
I've been asked a few times how much punishment can a CL2.2 take, so instead of responding individually over and over again I'll just tell you what this car can actually take.
I've put over 270,000 miles on my CL2.2 and never had a single problem out of the engine itself. Okay, so at about 240,000 the automatic transmittion shredded on me but considering I dogged it almost every weekend wouldn't you say it was about time for it to go? So I dropped exactly $1,235.65 on a new tranny and never looked back. In fact, the dude that dropped my new tranny had a rep for doing an astonishing job and mine was no different. It actually shifted harder, which is what I wanted anyway.
The longest single trip I took in this car was from Key West to Cleveland, OH., which took me about a day and a half averaging between 85 to 105mph - never a studder, never any engine fade or failure. I've run out of gas twice in this car (only because I was parked on a slope and couldn't start it) but the engine continued to perform to perfection. I unknowingly drove my CL2.2 from Atlanta to Birmingham (250 miles) with NO OIL in the pan. Apparently, when I got my oil changed at Firestone they left the dipstick out, so I drove a total of 430 miles with no dip stick. Of course they refilled my pan with synthetic, replaced the belts, and cleaned the engine. I did happen to notice, however, that there was "HELP WANTED" letters on their bulletin board placed out in front of their business a few days later (I wonder why? ).
I've lost count how many times I've downshifted into 3rd at 80mph and pulled strongly all the way up to 7400rpm before the limiter forced the engine to studder. After upshifting I could pull up to 140mph on the speedometer. For you people that say the speedo is flawed or the 2.2 can't push up to 140mph without mods it can't be off by that much. I've gotten a reckless driving ticket (97 in a 65) and the speedo was actually reading about 105. By the way, I got a lawyer and busted the charge down enough to go to driving school. No points lost.
at over 270,000 miles I do have oil leakage near the timing belt area and I burn a little more oil than normal but I've never seen any smoke come out of the tailpipe. I didn't even replace the timing belt until around 230,000 miles and that was only because I didn't want to take a change a break the old belt, otherwise the car performed brilliantly. I've pushed this car to the limit where some other cars would have eventually thrown a rod or completely failed. I wouldn't suggest dogging out your car like I did but it does give you an idea of how much punishment the little four cylinder can take and how long it can take it. So, without saying, I'm sure the 2.2 can handle being turboed.

Last year the CL2.2 engine overheated like crazy and I limped her to an ACURA dealership. One of the fans went bad and the radiator cap had gone bad too. The manager at the ACURA dealership said the head gasket would be gone for sure as long as many miles as I had driven it hot. He quoted me a price of $2500.00 labor and all just in case (yeah, right sucker). All they ended up replacing was the valve cover gasket and I installed my own fan. The car still ran like a TANK.

at 160K Kms, mine still feels like new. I've done burn outs, downshifted to 4th at 150 km/h, drove for 30 mins through a hilly area at about 130-140 in third gear, topped it out at 195. Pretty much anything you can think of. I've always taken good care of it though...synthetic oil, timing belts, spark plugs.

nice!! glad to hear that. Mine just hit a round 200.000 and never had any problems with the engine. baby runs like the day she came off the assembly line. Same tranny same engine, replaced head gasket last week, cracked, apart from that new water pump and radiator. I love my 2.2!!:-)
