Transmission ?s

1) What is "slipping"?

2) My car doesn't like to shift in low RPMS and it doesn't really know that you want it to shift when you press on the gas lightly. I'm not really sure what that means. And, this only happened once when the car was cold, it held first gear for a really long time.

3) What does "lack of second gear" mean? I notice when mine shifts from 1st to 2nd it has a hard time accelerating in 2nd gear.

4) My car always redlines before shifting, I thought that was normal. That's what all of the other cars I drive do when you slam on the gas.

5) Is it better to replace a transmission before it dies, or when it dies (cost wise)

My transmission is weird, but I really don't see that theres a LOT wrong with it. I'm worried about having to replace it and the cost.

Basically I was looking at the noob guide and noticed something about 2nd gear clutch pack failure. I'm not sure if all of those symptons fit my car but they seem fairly close.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

1) slipping is when the car kinda jerks ( ) at times. The rpms will spike a bit but the car wont move any faster. Youll feel it and know.

2) im pretty sure the car holds gears longer when its cold to help it warm up quicker, but i dont know to what extent were talking about here.

3) from what i understand, a cracked-out ( ) transmission will completely skip second gear because of some issue with the solenoids? I dont really know too much about this issue in the autotragic trannies.

4) if youre flooring it, it will run to redline. if it redlines under light-moderate acceleration, then your solenoids may be bad or something like that.

5) you might do some damage to your tq converter if you run it on a shatty tranny for too long.

hope this helps . good luck, and dont hate me if im wrong

Oh alright thanks for the response. Maybe my transmission isn't so bad after all.

I wasn't even gonna try to comprehend that jargon about clutch slipping.

i have a question as well...i've noticed this when i got my car...this only happens when i shift from reverse to drive..when i shift to drive, it grabs the gear and then immediately it jerks. I usually shift from R to D then wait for it to jerk then continue on..cuz im afriad to step on the gas when it happens to jerk at the same time. it ONLY happens when going from R to D. but my car shifts fine when driving. is this normal? sorry if I sound confusing...

only honda ATF shoudl be put in the tranny and DO NOT FLUSH! just drain and refill it, along with the Honda ATF you can add Lucus transmission stop slip which will help with the shifting alot making it smoother and also lube the tranny alot better. the R to D may be an issue but try having the car to a complete stop with the break on then into drive and see if it jerks. when my tranny went, when i shifted into reverse there was a lound bang noise.
