Tranny additive treatment any good?

Now that I know that I have a new tranny (came with the car, lucky me) and since I have the extended factory warranty on my 97 3.0 and can't install a cooler (voids warranty), I am wondering about tranny treatment like Duralube. I have heard many good things about it, especially in helping to keep tranny temps down. If high temps are what hurt the tranny, I suppose I could use one of these treatments.

Does anyone have any experience with these additives? Any recommended brands? Is it a one-time application, or at least until you do a tranny drain and fill? Does it also improve shifting like they profess to?

Where did you find that the 98-99 tranny is covered under a extended 100k warranty?

When I bought the car from my loca Acura dealer last month, I bought an Acura-Care extended warranty for one year. This is why I am covered.

As for the tranny additive, will it cause any problems down the road? Does it actually do what they claim? If it helped one tranny last longer, maybe it does.

Anyone else have an experience with it?

But would you put it into a new tranny to help reduce heat so it lasts longer?

In that case, you'd want to purchase a tranny cooler.

Yeah, but my Acura dealer tells me if I do, it will void the tranny part of my Acura-Care warranty. So, I can't install a cooler. However, these additives claim they reduce friction and heat, so I thought it might be a good compromise. But, since this is a new tranny, I didn't want to put an additive in it that might actually hurt the tranny.

So, I figured I would ask you guys to see if anyone has put it into their tranny, especially those whose trannys were not actually failing. Just a preventative measure I guess.

there was same extended warrenty for 97.

its 6 years or 100k whatever comes first, i doubt there are any 97s that could still qualify for that. 98s will be phased out in 05, 99 in 06.

my acura care extended warrnety and road service expired may 04. i hit 6 yrs way before 100k.

rickshobbies there is almost no chance of you having any warrenty from acura other then the first 30 days or whatevr. myabe its 90 if its certified.

Bottom line is
1. you dealer is a dipshit
2. your warrenty if u have one will expire very soon
3. it voids no warrenty in the first place (there is a law against it)
4. get the tranny cooler and prolong the life of ur tranny

OK, I just bought my 97 3.0 CL from Valencia Acura. It had 66k miles on it. Acura offered me a 1 year Acura-Care extended warranty on the car. I had to pay for it, but I am covered, including transmission, for one year. Everything electrical and mechanical is covered. There is no question about this as I have received the paperwork from Acura and it's in writing. Plus, the Acura service department checked their computer and found that my VIN has the warranty and it is in effect and covers everything, including the tranny. I paid for this warranty from Acura (not a 3rd party warranty company) so maybe that's why it seems so different from what you guys have seen.

Now, during this visit to the dealer service center, they told me that they (Acura) replaced my transmission just before I bought the car. In fact, the dealer did it after taking it in on trade. They told me that Acura paid for the tranny, not the dealer, so I don't really know what the deal was there. This was all done just before I bought the car (though they didn't disclose that to me while I was buying it of course). This was a one-owner car that was serviced entirely at their dealership and I now have a service history print-out from them for the car's entire life before I bought it.

Anyway, if I install the cooler, I will void this warranty's coverage of the tranny because it's an aftermarket part (per the service rep). So, as long as this warranty is in effect, I don't want to install the cooler.

I will probably just do nothing and just drive the car. I just figured that if putting something simple, like an additive, into the tranny it might help keep things cooler running for the tranny and maybe even smooth out the shifting.

Too bad those types of companies are getting sued like crazy for making their claims. Come on now, they teamed up with APC to make products i heard. APC, that is a very trusted name, hahahahahaha. But seriously prolong is getting sued, i heard things like dishwashing soap can do better than prolong on the bearing test or such.

Then don't put in the that crap in the car, it will probably void the waranty, or a reason for them to not give u the waranty if something does go wrong.

So if I have a 98 and my tranny is goofing up, they warranty it up to 100k miles or 2005, which ever comes first?

we are talking about genuie acura warrenty. i dont know if that 1 yr warrenty is new or not, but the 6yr 100k one from acura can only be bought before the origanal 3 yr 60k is up.

technically the tranny cooler doesnt void the warrenty unless it is proved to be the cuase of failure which as soon as u take it to the dealer they will blame that. aside from removing the frotn bumper it wouldbt be hard to take it out b4 its towed to the dealer.
