okay i'm sooo clueless with most things like this, but i'm hoping if this is a really obvious problem that someone can let me know...

tonite i was parked and idling for a while... when i started driving again, i stopped at an intersection maybe a hundred feet away and suddenly my car just shut off. i didn't notice any changes in the idle or anything before this happened, it seemed to be running just fine.

so i tried to start it back up and nothing happened... i mean it "sounded" like it was trying to start, but it didn't. i kept trying for a couple minutes, and finally maybe 5 minutes later it started. i made it the rest of the way home okay, but now i'm really paranoid to drive it again.

any ideas why this happened? i guess i'm going to call the dealer tomorrow (it's still under warranty for another 5k miles )... just thought i'd see if anyone had input though.

(by the way it's a '98 3.0 with 95k miles)

do you have any modifications? fuel and/or air are top two culprits....

maybe your car is overheating? when is the last time u had a tune-up?

i think its ok. how much gas did u have in it? the fuel pressure was prolly too low while u were idling and when u gave it gas it had to build fuel pressure. the no starting thing would be the fuel injectors being primmed again. def. take it in to the dealer since u got a warranty left, but i dont think anything is wrong.

okay let's see... it doesn't have any mods... and yea it's had the ignition recall done.

when this happened, my first thought was that i was out of gas or something, even though the gauge showed at least 1/8th tank... we went and filled it up right away as soon as it started and it filled up with 12 gallons... and the tank holds like 17 gallons right? so it would've still had about a quarter tank left when this happened...

would that still possibly cause a problem like this?

I know this sounds lame to ask but, when your car died and you tried to restart it.......did you remember to first put the car in "P"? and was it all the way in, like it clicked? sometimes I don't put my gear selector all the way in and it won't start, then i hit it and hear it click and it starts.

im sure its just low fuel pressure due to low gas. and at idle the fuel injectors do lose thier prime

had the charging system checked? when an alternator goes bad, or the belt comes off the car begins to run off of the battery alone, which will eventually die and any little thing will cause the car to stall, then when trying to restart wont start due to the obvious drained battery
