I came across this same issue last month. I had Yokohama Avid V4 tires on the car since I bought certified pre-owned 2 years ago. I put 38,000 miles on these tires and they could have gone another 5,000 miles.
After 2 months of research, I decided to replace them with Bridgestone Potenza RE950 tires. These tires are incredible. I got them installed at Costco for $405 total landed cost.
If you look at tirerack.com these tires are the most highly rated tire on the entire bloody site.
These tires have significantly impeoved wet and dry traction - as they should because they are classified as high-performance all season - but they are much closer to high performance than all season. These tires also have a very stiff sidewall. It feels like i am running on 17 inch wheels. I highly recommend these and definately check out tirerack.com for the reviews.

I too second the Bridgestone Potenza RE950's. I had them installed 4-5 months ago, have put about 25,000 on them so far, and they ride just as good as when I got them. The key is rotating them every 6,000. Our camber is set pretty low so you need to make sure they are wearing evenly. The only issue I have is the tread pattern is directional (to keep them quiet) so you have to remount them every 4-5 rotations to switch sides. You are normally just swapping front/back.

You can see the directional pattern of the tread in that image. It helps keep the tires really quiet on the road.

Yokohama 420
Good quality tire, very high treadwear rating, high grip rating.
I upgraded the size of the tires to 225/50 16. Much wider, lots more grip and looks pretty nice too.
