tire sizes

I am sure this question has been posted before but I am a newby to this site.

I have a '98 2.3 5sp with very low miles and never been happy with the OEM tires, a friend gave me his new tires from his Porsche with next to no mileage. The tires in question are Continental super contact 225/50R16, I know that the diameter is the same as my originals (205/55R16) but wondered if they will fit on the stock rims and secondly have enough clearence especially in the rear with that bizare suspension setup.

Let me know your experiences

I would not do. The stock tires on my '97 looked too wide for the stock rims. I think you would need to get at least 1/2 - 1" wider rim and if you going to do that you might as well get 18" rims. I think the stock tires and rims were way to mushy, stepped up to 18X7.5 and love it!
