Thinking about converting cupholder to iPod mount using Fiberglass

So i was thinking that since no one bought the cupholder that i put up on ebay, thati would do some custom work to it. My thoughts were that i would cut out the part where it latches in and keeps it closed and make that entire thing straight. Then take the door off and cut off the hinges to make it flat. (This comes into play later)

Then my thought was that i would take fiberglass and make a little mount for it so that it is level with the old cupholder (not at the level of the door, but slightly lower) and have it recesed to the depth of the iPod to make the top of the pod even with the fiberglass around it. This is where the door would come into play. when i would leave the car, i could cover the iPod with the door and no one would know that it was there. I want to do this but want to get some opinions. I just hate having that thing sliding around the car.

Do you need to have access to the ipod controls or can you control it using your car stereo? or is it strictly just to keep it in one place.

Am asking, cuz in mine I attached mine under the armrest since I control it through my stereo.

I assume that it'll just be a mount right? Sounds like a cool idea

No see what i was wanting to do was pretty much completly cut it all out and make it into a holder. As for the connections (I know, this is OLD SCHOOL but it will be changed when i get a new Head Unit), i took out the tape player from my other car and put that in the glove box. Yes it was my other CL. Considering i dont use it i figured that it was the cheapest way to get it to work. Dont worry, it fits nicely. Then that old school tape adapter and the cable would be run to the cupholder. I had the itrip and i had 3 of them break on me. They no longer sent out a signal and each one of them was replaced my the manufacturer... I got sick and tired of it. I was thinking about a head unit i just cant get motivated to go to Tweeter, Best Buy, or Circuit Cty and see what they have to say about them as they will want me to buy one right then and there. The guys here are pushy as hell i might add. In time...

But on a possitive note, i can always mount it there and then run the cables to the new HU so its not a big deal.

keepin the lil door on there so you can cover it up sounds like a smart move, dont want people thievin the pod if you leave it in the car.
