Thinkin of jumpin ship ACURA to Subaru

My CL has been through alot and I am very attached to it, but it was never fast enough for me and it is an auto. I will definitely have it for another year. I always wanted to do a h22, 5spd swap, but the new subaru legacy gt limited is making me reconsider. my friends dad is very high in the ranks at GMAC and get the cars at cost. i have some time to think about it. i know my cl with a h22 would be a rare and awesome, but i just dont know if its gonna be worth it. im gonna wait for the 06 legacy to come out see what upgrades it gets although its awesome as it is. the only thing i dont like is the rear reminds me of a civic and a protege. just wanted to see what you guys think.

peace

i feel ya man... i was also in the same boat with my cl (also a 2.2 auto) and wanted to to a h22 this past summer.... mom ended up buying herself a new car (a sl55 amg) and i came to the realization that an h22 would make me happy.... for 3 grand (if youre lucky) youre gonna go from 145 hp to 200?! not worth it.... i also want a new car... looking at mkiv supra's, e36 m3's and also...the scooby... i love subaru's .... good cars.... anyway, i'll also rock my cl for a while before i make any decisions (money being whats holding me back)... but for sure, no h22 for me... i want way moe than that....

as for you, i think the scooby is a great choice....

i'd switch. If you want a fast car, a CL is not the way to go. its not like the H22 is a monster engine. Or just get a bike and satisfy your speed urges that way.

yea right, like i said, the H22 isnt gonna be on the list of 'most desirable engines' anytime soon. If i wanted some serious speed, i ll either

A. stay on my bike. I ll take on anything on 4 wheels.

B. buy a fast car from the factory (Evo, WS6, etc)

If it's built, it is. They got built boosted h22's pushing 500+whp.

A. Bikes and cars are completely different. Good luck trying to keep the frontwheel on the ground, while taking off from the line.

B. There are an abundance of those car's you mentioned. Every ricer and 18yr old rich kid are buying those. I'd rather have a fast cl, smoke a guy in a wrx, and look at the expression on his face.

Before i bought by cl i had a 95 gsr with a t3/t4 turbo. I always had so much fun messing with z28's and wrx's. They ARE fast cars stock. But are they fast for the money? There should be a acceleration per dollar ratio. My 10k car with 8k in upgrades kicked the snot out of 40k+ cars. Also, as stated above, being unique is just important in my book as being fast. Where i live i see more 3,5 and 7 series bmw's than i see civics. I almost bought a 330ci 6 months ago but changed my mind due to the number of bmw's i saw during the test drive. yes its a nicer car than my cl, but i would lose being at least a little unique. If i were to buy a new car, it would be in addition to the cl, not in lue of it. like an attack by k2 styling. Put the h22 turbo in that car and you will fly. Well, i have been rambling on long enough.

I say keep the cl and if you want speed get the new r1.....

brah, did i say that? obviously not.

dont underestimate hondas motors. many of you dont know shit because you havent taken your cars to their limits- and what i mean by limits, i dont mean fixing up your ride with apc rims; jesus stickers and so on.. im not the most knowledgable person, but for the 2 years ive been in the scene, i had learned a bit from second hand and third hand experience. ive seen 400+ whp h22's and a 12 second soch f series motor personally, and that is damn well impressive coming from 145-200hp motors straight from the factory. many people- just like a grip of you here- believe that buying another car will solve all your problems. for all i care, buy it and enjoy it. that is the whole purpose of owning a car. its because you want to enjoy it. i love my cl and it would be well worth it to see it pushed to its limits.

just because you have an h22 turboed in your car doesnt make it the best....

different people choose to spend money on different things.

Yea you're right. But at this stage, i would never do that.

to do the swap, plus build internals, plus turbo it, plus labor, is just too much fuckin money. I'd rather spend it on something else. Even those H22 turbos, they can get a slightly built WS6, SS, or SVT next to them and get their ass handed to them. I'd rather put 10k into the motor of a V-8, and have around 800-900 HP as most around here do, than topping out at 500 HP on a CL.

youve got it all wrong. i didnt say my turbo'd h22 is the best. what i am saying is dont doubt the potential of a 4 cylinder.

No doubt the V-8 will end up more power. So you can't really compare an 800+hp v-8 to an i-4 because they aren't in the same class. You're comparing a drag car to a 500hp+ 4-6cyl dail-driven street-car.

have you ever driven a 500 hp mercedes? what i dont like about 500 hp honda's is that theyrer just no designed for that shit.... once you do a motor in one youve got to consider breaks, suspension, axles.... all that shit,... what i like about... lets say a sl55 i shit like the dynamic seat adj. (seats adjust automatically side bolster and lumbar depending on body roll and lateral g's) now a honda with shit like that would get much respect from me....

dude you cant compare a fuckin touring car to an economy car. Its only so obvious which one was built- from factory- formula 1 inspired and was MEANT for circuit/touring racing.

I ditched the CL for the 350Z and haven't regretted it one bit. The power difference is night and day. I couldn't see my 2.3 ever being able to hang with my Z.

I got hijacked.

anyways im not lookin for some 9 sec race car. a low 14 sec car and 0-60 in the 5s would be nice. one of the reasons i like my cl so much is how rare it is compared to a civic. if the new leagcy gt is all over the place i will shy away from it also. im just sayin that in about a year i think ti will be time to move on. seems like a lot of great members are going to do the same. ithe old dynasty of 1st gen is comming to an end it seems.

VX it's a nice car! i would wait a little to see how the first year car works out. but dont let 'an insider" at GM influence picking out a car. pick the car based on what you like. THEN it's great that you get to pay less! I dont think I've ever met ANYONE who had a subaru and didn't love it!

just don't buy a forester! it seems like every dyke bitch in charlotte owns one

Nope, get the new GSXR, SUZUKI BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will kill those R1's that loose power around 168 hehehehheheheh I would beat R1's with my 750 all day, and now that I have my 01 and 03 GSXR 1000, it's not even a comparision, 01-04 R1 and most likely 05 too. Sorry I had to rag on the R1, it's looks nice though

800-900hp on a domestic, lets be realalistic here, 10k wont get you 800-900 hp man. Also, you have to buy the car, which costs more money. Most ss's, Ws6's and svt's are in their high teens, to mid twenties still. Your gonna spending around $60000, for that kind of power. You need to remember to complete the drivetrain, beefing up transmissions, drifshafts, gearing ect. I been around the domestic scene longer than the import and owned a z28 myself so I know what i'm talking about. Also, if you know what your doing, and do the labor yourself, all there is parts. I hardly ever take my car to a shop. Most shops cut corners. Also, your opinion is comming from a guy who runs 87 octane while spraying. That guy knows exactly what he's talking about.

Well, lets see here. For instance, i have a friend who bought a used WS6 with 20k on it. He paid 17k. He's got all the usual bolt on business, plus a 150 shot. He currently runs a 11.3 in the quarter. I dont think he spent more than 5k on mods. So i'd take that, any day of the week, and twice on sundays. As for me spraying nitrous with 87 octane, i ll take my chances. If it blows, it blows. My a/f is always fine, and i've never had a problem. I like my CL, but i think too many people try to turn it into a race car, which its not.

How many run at 500whp daily on 93 (or less) pump gas?

Yea but it's still a 10K car. Even though the guy in the 40K car lost this race, he still gets to drive his nice 40K car the rest of the year.

You guys forget there are turns in the road too. I don't care if you have a $2K suspention on your $10K car - and you can beat an STi in a straight line - you still aren't going to come anywhere close to him in the twisties or on the track.

You won't be driving the car very long at the limits. Thats what all of us (ones that are thinking about or did jump ship) are sick of. Stretching the term unique too. The CL is getting old, even with some $2K rims and a slick paint job all it'll get is a few looks, even after it runs an 11 sec 1/4.

Which cost him how much out of pocket? I'm sure if he would have had to fork out $6K, he'd be in a car that was umm... value of CL + 6K right now.

Huh? Isn't that what you guys are doing - comparing our "inspired" cars to the ones that are meant for that?

Don't take this as a personal bash or anything guys, but you are giving our 6/7 year old cars too much credit.

Same here almost: 350Z/Magnum RT/F250 Diesel.

Ideally I'd like to have the 350Z AND the F250, not sure if I can pull that off or not. The Magnum is a good blend - insane power, supposedly good handling (haven't driven one yet), plus decent cargo space.

proaudio, i couldnt have said it better myself. I love my CL, but at the same time, its not worth it trying to make it fast. I get my lil looks driving around, and i call it a day. All that extra money to do all this crazy swaps and turbos, will be going to something else. Namely, the 1960 Cadillac i'm going to buy. Or into my bike, which is fast as hell and makes me think trying to make 'any' car fast is pointless. The CL is a sweet car, but its outdated, and slow.

fun car to drive, I flogged one a few weeks back. I'm waiting to talk to people that tow w/ the magnum to see how it handles it. That will make the decision easier
