supercharger vs. custom turbo

ok.... from what i know a supercharger is best for a automatic.... but the thing that comfuses me is that how come cars such as audi's, volvol's, etc have turbo in their automatic cars... im thinking about adding etheir turbo or a supercharger.. i personally like the sound turbo makes but i denno what to do.. turbo or supercharger? which gives me more hp gain?

Doesn't matter which one you have for your an auto. Usually turbos can make more power than superchargers and put more strain on the tranny, any tranny. Not sure about the custom turbo prospects either. Some guy with a v6 accord tried it with terrible results.

If you add a blow off valve to the turbo.

Only when you let off the throttle. You wont get it every shift, but you will when you let off after a boost run.

You are better off w/ a turbo on an auto cause you aren't on boost all the time. W/ an SC you are always on boost and that'll put more pressure on the tranny.

Nope, only if you put a Blow Off Valve on. The Blow off valve realeses all the built up boost. Most people want this sound.

No you wont get the sound when youre not spooling. The noise is boost escaping when you slan the throttle shut.

Driving around <3K in an auto will have nothing to blowoff.

You can probably get into a custom setup for $5K, but you'll spend more on the trannies you blow.

the hiss from a turbo is nice but a whine of a s/c is much nicer.. s/c has better low end than turbo's boost on s/c's can also be adjustable.

SC's dont have near as much potential....harder to intercool, harder to change boost levels.

Not the "bang for the buck" that a turbo is

I really don't think this kid is serious about spending 5-10K on a custom turbo for a 3.0. Unless you have $$,$$$ to burn, don't even think about it.

Well, I'm not a kid and I do have $5k I'd be willing to spend on 80+ hp. I've been trying for months to get Comptech to sell me one of their Accord 3.0 SCs but they insist it won't fit. I'm currently looking around for a place to do a turbo but the closest shop so far is 60mi away. Now, do any of you actually have a SC or turbo on your 3.0 that can give me some worthwhile advice?

Ross (rmstoico) put the SC on his 3.0, but blew his tranny in the first week. Do a search on it. He got it to fit, although some work had to be done to make it fit.

If I 'accidentally' blew my tranny (w/out SC or turbo) under warranty, think Acura would consider a Level10 as replacement?

um? are you sure? It's not hard to change the boost level on an SC at all, just take off one bolt and change the pulley. Now a boost controller makes it very simple for a turbo, you are right. And SC's have a SHIT load of potential. If not equal to a TC, right there w/ it. And they are pretty easy to intercool.

One bolt and a belt and tension the belt and a pulley if they make one as big as you intend to go....its a headache.

Turbos will always have more potential than SC just due to design. The roots type blower cannot keep up with the effeciencies of a turbo spinning at much higher rpm range.

Research it a little and you'll see what I mean.

first, it'd be if they made one as small as you'd want to go

And I know alot about both, i've put all 3 on cars centrifigal SC, roots SC, and a turbo. Each has the same potentials. If i was building a drag car, i'd take a roots SC any day just for the pure boost and power it creates off the line. If i was building a street car, I like you would go w/ a Turbo or maybe towards a snail SC since the R&D that's been going into them lately is tremendous. Sure a turbo boosting 30lbs will have alot more potential then the SC's but who the fuck drives around boosting that much? 14 lbs is comparative to 8-10 out of an SC>
