Steam Cleaning

Hey, has anyone ever steam cleaned their headliner? Will that mess it up? Mines really dirty and i knwo my friend whos got a dodge ram does it to his, will it screw up ours if we try to steam clean the headliner? (i know its not that thick and there is the sunroof slot above that..so yeah...good idea or bad...

If its a bad idea....what can i use to clean it with?

My mom had my car before me so it had eyeliner all over the ceiling. I was going to get it steam cleaned (dont see why it would hurt it) but ended up using our hoover stem vac. with attachment Worked really well

My headliner was filthy when I purchased my car. A damp rag with pet stain carpet cleaner did the trick. I think it was Woolite brand I used. Be careful on what you put on it cause it can actually loosen the glue in which the headliner is attached. Same thing goes with steam.
Also be sure to clean the entire headliner, and to not get one particular area of it soaked or you will end up with water rings when dry.

A steam cleaner may be a bit too much. It can get the adhesive of the headliner to come undone if its too hot. Also, it may saturated the headliner too much so that it dosen't completely dry.

Try using a carpet cleaner that you scrub gently. Or if you want to get it completely clean, take it out and clean it however you seem fit.
