Some pointers

Alright, so I'm a truck guy like 4X4's and stuff like that, but my dad has a 98 3.0 CL that hes drove for years and hes always talked about chiping it, like putting in a new ECU, and his birthday is coming up soon and I thought that maybe that would be something good to do for the old man. So if you guys could give me some basic pointers and stuff that I could do to his car to make it a bit more fun to drive. Also how hard would it be to swap his 4 speed auto to maybe a 5 speed manual? Lets hear it!

There are no ecu chips for our cars. The manual swap is doable, but you would need custom tranny mounts and possibly have to cut the firewall.

You have big aspirations. None of which will happen overnight. Take him to dinner.

the import scene doesnt have pretuned piggybacks much like the chips found in the domestic scene. you can use a piggyback such as a apexi vafc controller if you are interested in a/f tuning and change of vtec engagement.

Pretty much the sad situation, unless you get AEM engine management or something of the sort which is on the expensive side.

Lol. Relax, it was a serious comment. There is way too much information to learn or read about overnight.

Engine swaps, transmission swaps, etc. They all take time, money, knowledge and the right shop, unless youre doing it by yourself. Things like intakes, exhausts and headers are more easily doable.

Modding a car isnt like going to the store and buying shirts and shorts. Theres too many factors involved.

i think if there were piggybacks, most of us would have them. thought about a vafc but im way too novice when it comes to anything technical like that. DEFINITELY isnt even a process that takes a week. its like months and months of research and fine tuning so ive read. and then if you get even deeper (im imagining shit like this would make you a performance junky in no time), like turbo / super charge, or nitrous, its even more research. its definitely something you wanna take your time on.

on the other hand, doing things like cosmetic and for show purposes is a lot less time consuming. unless you start getting into things like the techs of an audio/video system (i didnt think it was gonna be so much work but it is.), or the techs of things like air suspension, etc etc. might be an avenue you might wanna take a look at it if the performance aspect gets too crazy for you. althought it can be just as expensive

:agree: Especially with our cars, where almost everything is custom
