So I bought these

I've decided that my little candle-like headlights need to go, so I bought these: http://www.slickcar.com/products/317-1134PXUS2.jpg The only problem now, is that I'm going to have to install them. I know there's probably a DYI on it, but how tough is it going to be? I can't even change a headlight bulb on the car because I can't get the freakin thing out!

AznX TL Oct 27, 2008 10:21 AM

you have to take the whole bumper off.......

DoubleSh0t Oct 27, 2008 10:31 AM

Yep, there's a DIY. Look for "Blackhousing Headlights With Front Bumper Removal." The hardest part is getting the bumper aligned back up properly when putting it back on. I'd suggest an extra set of hands for that.

97BlackAckCL Oct 27, 2008 11:01 AM

:werd: Here's the diy, you have to take the bumper off, it's not that big of a deal, it's easier with 2 people to take it off, but especially to put it back on, 2 people is a must.

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 11:48 AM

Think I'd be better off paying somebody to do it for me?

97BlackAckCL Oct 27, 2008 11:57 AM

Depends if you can turn a socket wrench or not, it's 4 bolts and like 2 screws, really not complicated, just takes a little juggling to get the bumper back on straight. U still dating the dude that was into cars? Make him do it

remove the front bumper, then remove headlight assembly. Here's the DIY for the bumper removal

:werd: I wouldn't pay someone to do it.

Gregyz Oct 27, 2008 02:19 PM

My brother(13 years old) and I took off my bumber and put it back on its seriously like 4 bolts, you just need someone to hold the other end up.

Berksallday Oct 27, 2008 02:28 PM

I just got those headlights like 2 days ago and they look sick. Honestly, get a friend to help you out with taking and putting the bumper back on. Just follow the directions on the FIY and you should be fine. I'll be posting pics real soon.

mattastick Oct 27, 2008 02:57 PM

When I blackhoused, I pulled the bumper and put it back on all by myself... It's not that hard...

ckrowland Oct 27, 2008 03:14 PM

the bumper is kinda heavy, thats the only reason you really need help getting it on/off

ethenol Oct 27, 2008 03:27 PM

headlights headlights headlights, has anyone tried redhousing headlights? I think I will start a new trend. LOL

artbran Oct 27, 2008 03:50 PM

You can do this on yourself hun...

Not hard at all...

Just get someone to help when you throw the bumper back on or just take your time.

Ecrack Oct 27, 2008 03:50 PM

If Gregyz brother is 13, u should be able 2 handle it...unless your 12...lol

ive always wondered if anyone has done somethin like that or painted it a different color instead of black... has anyone?

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 04:35 PM

You're right, I'll give it a shot...guess we'll see when I have a day off work to do it. Shouldn't take too long, I don't think.

asianspec Oct 27, 2008 04:39 PM

you need a socket wrench extension also too. it not hard but it is a 2 person job

SupraManAG Oct 27, 2008 05:42 PM

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 05:56 PM

Alright, I'm going out to the garage...wish me luck!

hOnU Oct 27, 2008 05:57 PM

i might look into getting those just because i'm sick of looking at my headlights that i've tried to wetsand, buff, plastix, scratchx, everything...don't wanna blackhouse them myself, so arstraub post some pics so i can see what it looks like! what color is your car btw?

ethenol Oct 27, 2008 07:33 PM

Better than black, everything is blackhouse this smoke that I want some red and blues, even white I liked the white. LOL. really did like the white

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 07:44 PM

Okay, help me! I can't get the lights to come out! I read the instructions in the manual and still can't get them; what am I doing wrong?!

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 07:44 PM

My car's primrose mist

ckrowland Oct 27, 2008 08:04 PM

the headlights or the bulbs?

DoubleSh0t Oct 27, 2008 08:05 PM

Make sure you got all of the bolts, you've probably missed one.

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 08:08 PM

Nevermind! I got it!

arstraub Oct 27, 2008 11:03 PM

Almost full pic, i was in the garage and couldn't move back any further...http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...b/P1060237.jpg

The damage is from the mask/bra that I put on the car; I took the pics before putting the bottom back on.

I like them; they work SO much better than the nasty stock ones!

Overall, it was a little tougher than I figured, and I have a few "Extra" bolts...but oh well :)

and my hands are all cut up to hell

97BlackAckCL Oct 27, 2008 11:14 PM

it's all worth it though, enjoy

artbran Oct 27, 2008 11:19 PM

LOL extra bolts??? you should see the box of bolts from the CLS6 that I just parted...

Cocoa Oct 28, 2008 10:46 AM

A lady that puts in the wrench time in the garage. That's hot. Will you marry me!? :)

arstraub Oct 28, 2008 11:01 AM

Mach30SiR Oct 28, 2008 11:08 AM

:werd: I guess they're happy though, sales on these things are def picking up now that they lowered the prices, several members have them now, still can't stand the corners though

arstraub Oct 28, 2008 11:53 AM

I think I just like the corners b/c I think they go well with my rims :)

hOnU Oct 28, 2008 12:07 PM

hey amanda, get some pics up of the full car! lights are looking good! making me want them more and more now..i keep looking at davzilla's car because his is black and so is mine, but it looks sweet on the primrose, and like you said it matches with your rims so more power to you! and werd on what cocoa said! haha

lol very easy. Fill the sink with warm water. Add dish detergent. Have inner piece (white in pic) sit in water for an hour or so then scrub off chrome with rough dish spunge. That ivory white is the actual color of the plastic under the chrome
