small wreck...pictures...HELP
small fender bender that did more damage to my car..... the front drivers side fender is dented pretty good in several places as well as scratched, and the front bumper is also scratched ( both need good paint work)
a few questions after getting some estimates today....
the places that i went to said it would be cheaper to replace the fender then to pop out the dents.... does that sound right? i think that these places are looking out for themselves and telling me to get this new fender becuase it would be less work for them...
if i need to get a new fender, should i try to find one at a junkyard somewhere or online and put it on my self?
1. is it hard to take off and reinstall the fender myself?
2. where is a good place to look online for a replacement fender?
3. does anyone on this site have extra fenders laying around or is anyone parting out their car?
i think if i can do the fender myself and just get the bodyshop to paint it all i would save some $$
what are some opinions??
FYI...i dont want to put this on my insurence, and the other person that was involved in this is going to pay for 50% of it, becuase it was partly my fault....i don't have much money so i am trying to save every little bit

yeah it will be cheaper and better if you replace the fender. most of the body shop would get you the aftermarket OEM fender which i personally dont like, those aftermarket OEM wont fit as nicely. check out this site. www.car-parts.com....its an online slavage yard listing. i found a fender for my car for $100 in my area. sometime u might find one that match your car color and would need to paint it.

yea it should cost just a little bit more or pretty much the same to fix the fender rather than getting a new one. plus i wouldnt expect most body shops to even give you the option of fixing teh fender. but a brand new fender from the dealership is like 150 to 165 i think if im not mistaken.
and yea you should check a local junkyard or something like that before you do anything. its only a matter of tools to take and put the fender on.
i have access to a bodyshop so it was easy for me. i just pulled the dents outward then sanded it to something that was close to the original shape. but you need tools, other than that, it could be a little side job for you in your free time.

thanks man...i actually found one off that site for $75...
is it very hard to take off the orginal fender and replace it with this new one??
this fender i found is from a '99 CL, there isnt any body changes from those 2 years?
also, this fender i found is red, that isnt going to make a difference, just that they will have to paint right?
