the build is out of my control, there are financial family circumstances that are no longer allowing me to put the money in for a turbo. I have to sell my car and buy a cheaper one. Trying to find a 87-92 supra for a couple grand, maybe a late 80's mr2, something cheap and reliable that you don't see everyday.
My car is just too unstable, something seems to keep going wrong with it so I just want to fix it, get rid of it, and start fresh with something else. I'm praying I didn't bend the valves when the timing belt jumped, but I didn't hear any pinging or loud noise when the car shut off so I'm hoping they didnt bend.

Please dont take this the wrong way but isn't an older car gonna be more trouble some?
i.e. more stuff going wrong with it... besides... after you "fix" your CL won't it be done?
I mean... no more problems?
Your logic doesn't quit cut it for me...

my logic is that I need to sell my car and buy something cheaper and have money in the bank for college next year. Not t mention I'm sick of dumb ass shit and now serious shit going wrong with this car. It's had dumb problems from the get go and I'm just done with it. It sounds like I'm going to need a new head too now since I have a feeling and others have told me I probably bent my valves. And no, when I fix the cl it won't be "done" because I can garuntee a month down the road something else will go wrong, I'm just done with it.

Whatever you do, don't get an MR2 as a replacement. That car is ridden with problems, from electrical to mechanical and everything between. I know a guy from UCI that drives a late 80s MR2, he constantly works on the car and it's not because he is making it faster...
The CL is far more reliable than the MR2, if you hate the problems with the CL, then you're in for a big surprise with the 2...

I mean I can understand what youre getting at, its about the same with mine right now, its alot slower and I dont know why at all, oh well, who cares........ but yeah, if its not 1 thing its another, thats why ive given up on building it up, its a salvage title, so I cant sell it easily, so I keep it around as long as I can......... but everything that goes in, is gonna be something that can go into the next one.... next up is probably a tire pressure monitoring system, I depend on my tires too much for them to be in bad shape
but I gotta say though, Toyota isnt much better, even my brothers old 2000 model Celica was filled with problems, MR2 will break down alot, and when it is on the road itll get you wrapped around a tree......... Supras are great cars, but good luck finding one in good condition is the only thing

And if you have bent valves, don't expect to make a lot of money on your car and be able to "put money in the bank" I'd say stick with the CL but that's me. At least you know what problems it has and what you've fixed. MR2's and supras have their own lines of problems.

I'm changing the head, so it'll be worth blue book. I've always liked toyotas more and I've always thought out of all the companies, they were the most reliable. Before I buy another car I'm going to be looking into whats been done maintanence wise for sure and if it hasn't had specific things done I won't buy it.

actually I have a friend in a new TL-S, says he'll always be with Honda/Acura after having 2 Supras die on him (motor), he says he treats his Hondas the same way and they always come out laughing it off........... he's a lawyer, so he can afford all these things that I can only dream of in the future
