rusty ass under carriage

anybody else's underneath rusty as hell? when i got my coilovers installed, part of both rear wheel hubs broke (the bushing and bolt) due to rust, and also, when going to get my rotors in front resurfaced, they were rusted together. I only got 37500 miles on my shit. is it because its american made or what? any comments are appreciated. but let's remember what casper said. no dissin'

Where do you live??? If your area uses a lot of salt to get rid of the ice in winter, etc, it's normal I would say...

I went in a few months ago to get a wheel alignment, and they couldn't align the rear wheels because the bolts that are used to change the alignment, were rusted to the metal sleeve, so I had to get brand new rear arms (I think that's what they're called). Thank god I managed to get it done under warranty repair from Acura... Would have ended up costing an easy $350-$400. Took them about 2 hours to get it done at the dealership.

As for it being AMERICAN made, umm, I don't think it has to do with anything.

our cars are not american made... they are just assembled here, I think. at least now-a-days they are.

I had the same problem with those bolts, but thats kinda normal (sorry to say). If your car has ever seen salt, thats why... i wonder if even salt air (by the ocean) would cause that. I know a lot of cars do that. But if you look under my car, about the only thing thats rusted is the bolt heads... if that... the underside of my car looks brand new, and I live in NY. Just some bolts are a bitch to get out.

Ocean air is extremely saline. Especially near coastal areas. If you want to stop the rust immediately from spreading and continue to eat away the underbody of your car use a product called ZERO RUST. It's a little on the expensive side but damn worth it. It was recommended to my brother by a family friend in the auto refinishing business. It is one of the few things that really works like it says. I'm pretty sure they have a website too.

Don't feel bad. RidinLow, a member on the board, had the same problem. I think he even chopped his strut to get the thing out. Needless to say, it was a mess. I had a tuff time getting my rear lower bolts out and I live in Cali. My car was about a year old when I did it too. So, with the salt and snow, I could only imagine how hard it would have been.

Yep, pretty much everything under my CL is frozen from salt. Guess 3 years in upstate NY and 1 year in CA will do that.

Had to use a sledgehammer, a chisel, a hacksaw, a dremel, a torch, etc just to get that lower shock bolt off!
